Today, Centenary College of Louisiana broke ground on the first phase of the renovation of the historic Mickle Hall Science Building. This first phase includes a new entrance to the building with American with Disabilities Act compliant ramp, as well as demolition of the first and fourth floors of the building to prepare for future upgrades.

Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. On December 6, 1865 slavery was formally abolished with the adoption of the 13th Amendment.
Centenary College of Louisiana is closed today in observance of Juneteenth.

Centenary College junior Manasi Desai '27 and Dr. Joshua Lawrence, associate professor of chemistry, are getting international attention for their research in cosmetic chemistry. Desai and Lawrence developed a nail polish that turns a fingernail into a touchscreen stylus.

President Holoman delivered his annual report from Centenary, Rev. Maddie Russo was ordained as a Deacon in Full Connection, and there was a Centenary information table.

Additionally, The United Methodist Church is celebrating the 70th anniversary of ordaining women. Centenary Archivist Chris Brown and Rachel Scott of Noel Methodist UMC Shreveport researched, prepared, and distributed handouts about the anniversary. The flyer features photos of two early clergywomen connected to Centenary: (Dr. Anna Ruth Nuttall - English professor 1945-1952, and Rev. Elaine Willett - Centenary class of 1941).
