HELP ME MAKE 'THIS' GO VIRAL! By now you may have seen that softball game video out of east Texas where the runner did a tap-dance around home plate and scored after 'distracting' the catcher. It's been shared on SportCenter and national news programs. Cudos to the runner from Carthage. But I'm sick to my stomach over the ridiculous and heartless comments made about the catcher from Center, TX - many from grown adults. So let me tell you a little something about that standout catcher, Ryleigh Youngblood.
This kid is a stud-ette. Ryleigh is a 2-time, 1st team all-district catcher and offensive player of the year. So far this year, she's already hit 3 home runs and over 30 in her high school career. And she's verbally committed to play softball in college at Hill College.
I talked to her family today. Some of the comments are painful and amount to nothing more than bullying. And it's sad. Give an adult who acts like a juvenile a keyboard, and what do you expect.
As far as the play, frankly she was waiting for the umpire to call her out. She thought she had tagged Jada, and then was waiting for the umpire to rule that she possibly had run out of the baseline .. while also paying attention to the batter who was at 1st base and leaning toward second. That's why she looked to make sure that runner hadn't taken off. After Jada was ruled safe, what the video doesn't show is Ryleigh throwing that runner out at second.
It's good to see others reach out to the family with words of encouragement, including a member of the Carthage coaching staff. Thank you for what you do.
