Yesterday 9 of my students, pictured below, participated in the Greater Shreveport Music Teachers’ Baroque/Sonatina Festival. They all made me very proud.
And then the awards:
Out of 30 students in grades 1-4: left to right: Alisha Kim, Kinsey Sullivan, Kristyn Rickets and Zabarrie Thompson. Ellie Chafin and Her Mom pictured separately. Alisha & Zabarrie were both awarded Honorable Mention and the accompanying $10 prize.
Next to play were the 37 students I grades 5-8. I had 4 students play in that group: (left to right) Anne Michele Erwin, Kyrsten Thompson, Aidan Green and Joshua Kim. Aidan was awarded an Honorable Mention and Joshua Kim got 1st PLACE in his division (and $30).
Great job, kids!! I know how hard you worked to do this!!
Love for you ALL to give me a vote. 🎶🎈

Yesterday I️ had 12 students compete in a Solo Festival put on by the Greater Shreveport Music Teachers Association. Those participating were:
Anne Michele Erwin
Ellie Kate Lokitz
Five of them did well enough to play in the Honors Recital today.
I’m very proud of all of them and will attempt to their post videos of the Recital here.
Fall Lessons starting this coming Tuesday, September 5.
No lessons on Labor Day!!
Still enjoying the beautiful bouquets form the recitals. Thanks Limayes & Michells❤️
G'pas, uncles and cousins attended the recital, too.
[05/18/17] About 30 kids participated in our Recital/Talent Show last night. Very proud of them all. Parents please post your pics and videos. I have been sent some that I will be getting permission to post as well. Another successful year. Thank you all so much!!
Hey Parents!! Here's the info you'll need about the Recital, end of the school year and Summer Lessons. Hope this will work well for us all. 🎶
[03/11/17] I am refreshing my Birdsong FB page and inviting my students and their families to participate in what I post (parents, please help your kids post appropriately). I'll be posting events and special occasions and encourage you to post pictures and/or videos of your best stuff, too. Looking forward to seeing you here. 🎶
The annual Baroque/Sonatina Festival, a judged event sponsored by the Greater Shreveport Music Teachers Association, was held at the Broadmoor Methodist Church today. My youngest to oldest participants were Anisha Limaye, Avec Fabian, Anne Michele Erwin and Aidan Green. All of them did very well....very proud. Competition was intense but both Avec and Anne Michele managed to walk away with "Honorable Mentions" in their division. Out of 30+ participants in each of the 2 age divisions (grades 1-4 and 5-8) I think that's pretty darn good.

[05/15/15] So excited about our recital tomorrow! Check us out at All Souls Unitarian Church at 10:30am and 2:30pm!!
[04/26/13] While I'm at it, I'd like to mention our end of year concert that's coming up May 11 at the Southfield School Kytle Theater. There will be a 10:30 a.m. and a 1:30 p.m. concert so as not to make them too long. These are both open for family and friends to attend. They should be fun....the kids get to choose at least one of the pieces they play. It's a good, non-competitive "show-off" time for them after working on some pretty serious music much of the year. Come see what they've been up to.
[04/26/13] Also....I never posted results of the Baroque/Sonatina Festival that was held mid-March. I had a dozen students enter from from 1st through 11th grade levels. It's one of the tougher competitions we enter, as well. Adeline A., a 4th grade student of mine won 1st Place out of 40 others who entered the K-6 grade division of that contest. Nikki N., another 4th grader, received Honorable mention in the same category. It's been a good year for us!!! Thanks for all your hard work Adeline, Nikki, Paul, Caroline, Aidan, Layla, Michelle, Ann Michele, Addie, Emerson, Shane and Samuel !!
[04/26/13] One of my long-time students, Samuel, 17 years old, came in 2nd place in Performance in his division of the Piano Rally (Level IV - High School Jr.& Sr.) It's the toughest competition sponsored by the Louisiana Music Teachers Association in which they have to play 3 pieces from different era's of music. I'm quite proud of him and will try to post a picture....

[11/12/12] The Solo Festival was a big event! All went well. Out of my 17 students, three of them made a Superior Plus (which is the highest score they could get) and got to play in the Honors Recital yesterday... and all the rest of them made a Superior. I'm right proud of them all. I'll post pictures of the recital participants asap.
For all of you Solo Festival participants......
GSMTA fees for the festival are $12/student. I've already paid them but you'll need to re-imburse me asap.
For first time participants:
The festival is at the Hurley Music Bldg - Centenary Campus. From King's Hwy turn north on Centenary Blvd, take a right at the first light and another right at the next street (between the brick sideposts). Hurley is the 2nd bldg on the right. Go to the main door up the wide walk and stairs.
PLAN TO BE THERE 15 MIN. AHEAD OF YOUR PLAYING TIME!! You'll need to know your scheduled time and what judge you're playing for.
BRING YOUR MUSIC!!!! NO COPIES ALLOWED!!!
This is not an event for family & friends. You go into a room and play for one person at this phase.....20-30 min. and you've come and gone.
Anyone receiving a Superior Plus (5+) will be asked to play at the Honors Recital held at the same place on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 11th. Family & friends are invited to this event. Time: TBA.
I have a handout for you at the school. Good Luck to All!!
Sophie & Clara's last day. All the best wishes to you and Mom & Dad in Salt Lake. Hope you find a great piano teacher there.....cuz you are both wonderful young musicians. Hugs!!!!
