Centenary College of Louisiana launched the Centenary Youth Orchestra, with Dr. Todd Gabriel in 2014. The current director is Mr. Dan Santelices
Mission: The mission of the CYO is to provide high quality instruction for high school students by building ensemble skills and empowering them with the repertoire necessary to pursue college level auditions. By presenting a performance of quality with the ensemble every semester, we strive to bring both local and national attention to the CYO, the Hurley School of Music, and Centenary College of Louisiana.
Operating as usual
CYO’s 2nd Rehearsal in a Socially Distanced Setting!
Greetings (potential) CYO members! We are proceeding with updated safety protocols in order to—hopefully to proceed with a FALL Semester CYO Program. The meeting time is still scheduled for Mondays from 7:00-8:30PM in Feazel Rehearsal Hall on the campus of Centenary College.
School for the college begins August 10, however we will attempt to meet/play (in-person) on AUGUST 17. Online activities/playing may be substituted in the event of COVID-19 quarantine or college shutdown. The concerts for this year will be broadcast online and/or recorded without an audience.
Specific information, especially for potential new members, regarding how our school year will look, as best as I can ascertain, will be sent after filling out the Information Card below AND submitting an audition video—due Friday August 14. The following are Google Links for:
1. CYO Information Card
2. CYO Audition Requirements and Excerpts list (specific movement and measure numbers are what to be recorded)
3. Excerpts folder for ALL INSTRUMENTS
AUDITION VIDEOS should be sent to Mr. Santelices at [email protected] no later than AUGUST 14, 2020. Videos should be uploaded to a streaming platform such as YouTube or Vimeo, and a link sent in. Videos can be left “unlisted” for privacy. Please remember that the videos must be recorded in good light so that I can adequately see your entire stance, instruments and hands (for all instruments) bow holds and the entire bow (for strings) and the entire instrument for everyone. If you need further clarification of this, please e-mail questions.
Proud of what CYO accomplished this past Spring, along with Rebecca Kay Vacha and her C.E. Byrd High School Women’s Chorale.
Information regarding auditions and how the upcoming season may look like will be emailed to returning members. If you are interested in auditioning or joining please email Mr. Santelices: [email protected]
