The tragic murder of 14-year-old Emmett Till in 1955 became a catalyst for the Civil Rights Movement, and his mother’s courage in sharing his story changed history.

On February 26 at 10:00 a.m., LSUS Office of Community Engagement will host a performance of "The Face of Emmett Till," a powerful play co-written by Mamie Till-Mobley and David Barr III. Directed by Shreveport’s Vincent Williams and featuring local actors, this performance will illuminate Till’s story and inspire conversations about justice, education, and hope for the future.

🎟️ Admission is free. The community is invited to attend.

We kicked things off with fun spirit days, a Bonfire 🔥, and a lively Pep Rally featuring the Woodlawn High School Band 🎉. The Tailgate 🍔 and Homecoming Basketball Game 🏀 brought everyone together, where we crowned King Jamauri McNeal 👑 and Queen Aaliyah Tasby 👑.

At the Alumni Awards Brunch 🥂, we were joined by Mike Ferrell, Reece Lewing Jr., Chancellor Smith, Shirley Jacques Bates, Sandy Beck Byrd, and Doug Rimmer from the Class of 1975. During the brunch, Dr. Paula Atkins, Lt. Col. Joshua Yarbrough, Dr. Joslin Pickens, Laurel Brightwell, and Philip Williamson, Jr. received the Circle of Excellence Award 🏆.

The week also featured Academic Open Houses 🎓 and Virtual Brown Bag Lectures from Ayca Cabrera, Mike Woods, and Jeff Brasher 💻. We celebrated with Casino Day 🎰, gave special recognition to the Class of 1975 for their 50th Reunion 🎉, and wrapped up with a memorable Class Reunion.
