Dear Parents and Players
As we begin this new season of high school soccer, I would like to begin by introducing myself to those that have not gotten a chance to meet me. My name is Layne Sherman; I am the new head coach of the Boys High School soccer team. This year, my staff of coaches include Assistant Coach Chad Deitering, Assistant Coach Mike Lindquist, Assistant Coach Andrew West, Volunteer Assistant Eric Rask, and Volunteer Assistant Alexander Sherman. This year there are going to be changes to how many things are done as we build a program of Trust, Strength, and Mindset. The first change is how tryouts will be held and run. This week we will begin with practice geared towards skills needed in tryouts, in which we will go through each of the items below to explain what the criteria are on point system and expectations. During this summer we have worked extensively on these skills so if they got a chance to participate these concepts should not be new to them. Official tryouts will start on Monday 28th-Wednesday 30th with the first cuts being announced on Wednesday 30th. Practice times will be from 4PM - 6PM at the high school soccer field. The expectation is that players are there and ready by this time. The first cut will be those that did not meet the minimum point criteria to be considered for the team. Please note that I am stating the team because the division between Varsity and Junior Varsity will not occur at this time but will be determined by coaches later in the season and is subject to change based on player development and attitudes. On Thursday 31st of July final cuts will be made by coaches and announced at the beginning of practice after additional reviews as needed. The Parents Meeting is set for after practice on Thursday 31st locationto be announced depending on availability. The expectation is that parents attend this meeting to understand expectation of both parents and players during the season. Below is an outline of the points system for tryouts laid out by position that each player has decided to tryout for. Points will be from 0-3 (with 3 being the highest possible score) except for the category of Coachability/Attitude which will range from 0-9 (with 9 being the highest possible score) Total possible points will be 30. The cut offline will be 15 or below. If you have any questions, you are more than welcome to visit me before or after the mock tryouts.
