Back from a week long seminar and training. Let’s all congratulate Sensei Denning to Shihan, 5th degree Black Belt

I opened High Desert Bujutsu 5 years ago… I opened it, not to make money or get rich but to help people, to provide a different path for kids and adults. I’ve seen students come and go, I’ve seen kids work hard, learn about themselves and grow. I had a friend talk to me about teaching martial arts to kids. He told me “that’s giving back to our future for sure!” I’ve thought long and hard on those words and I definitely agree. We as adults get busy with our lives, work, relationships, hobbies, etc. and sometimes forget about the future. The future of our community, state, country and world. We pass all that on to “our” kids. Good, bad and the indifferent. We have to teach and train these kids to be future leaders and protectors, to live with Honor, Duty and Respect. These are the core principles of High Desert Bujutsu, not just words, but a way of life. To everyone that has and continues to support HDB, I thank you and I promise to continue to “give back to our future”. Osu!

3rd annual tournament that we went to. First time competing for a couple of the students. This was a tae kwon do tournament which is very much different than what I teach but we had a lot of interest in Bujutsu from their students and Black Belts. We came home with a number of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals. Great job kids, your hard work and discipline paid off. A huge shout out to the parents and family for supporting the kids.

Working on our Atemi Waza techniques during class. Atemi Waza refers to the body striking techniques in traditional Japanese Jujutsu martial arts, aimed at vital points to incapacitate an opponent or create an opening for throws or joint lock techniques. We are working on our first 9 techniques.

Today I was reminded by a fellow martial artist that we’re not all alike. Emotion can be a very powerful tool but also a deadly trap. Don’t let fear, anger, arrogance, pride lead you down the wrong path. Embrace compassion, generosity, confidence and humility. Live and train for the love it not for selfish desires…. Osu.
