Before a new school year begins, our leadership team brought out the competitive spirit and a few gutter balls at our retreat. More importantly, it gave us a chance to connect, learn, and grow, putting our school vision into practice! Here’s to an awesome school year SPMS! 🐾

Hello SPMS family! My name is Riley Acosta-Lewis. Please feel free to call me Ms. Riley! I am a Richmond native and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2018 with a Psychology degree. I started working at Short Pump in April of 2025 as an Instructional Assistant and quickly realized that Special Education was my calling. In my free time I enjoy playing games, watching anime, spending time at the river, and scrapbooking. I am very excited for this school year and the opportunity to help our students thrive.
Welcome (back) to Short Pump Middle Ms. Riley!

Welcome to Short Pump Middle School!
I’m excited to be joining Short Pump Middle School as the Reading Specialist this year. I love helping middle school students grow in confidence as readers and learners. Before joining SPMS, I taught both elementary reading and middle school English Language Arts. Outside of school, I’m a mom to a rising kindergartner and a rising high schooler. My family enjoys biking around Richmond, trying new restaurants, and traveling together. I’m looking forward to a wonderful year and getting to know the SPMS community!

Welcome to Short Pump Middle Ms. Nunez Caldart!
Hi everyone! My name is Belen Nunez Caldart, and I am so excited to be joining the Short Pump Middle School family as a Spanish teacher this year!
Learning languages has always been a big part of my life, and I love sharing that passion with others. Before becoming a teacher, I worked as a medical Spanish interpreter, helping patients and healthcare providers communicate with one another. Those experiences reinforced how powerful language can be in bringing people together, and I’m excited to help my students discover that, too.
I was born abroad and have lived in several different countries, which gave me a love for learning about new cultures, meeting new people, and trying foods from around the world. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy traveling, spending time with my family and friends, watching tv shows and movies, listening to music from all around the globe, and hanging out with my tiny Yorkshire Terrier, Nutella, who weighs just over two pounds and definitely has a much bigger personality!
I can’t wait to meet my students, get to know their unique personalities, and make this a fun, welcoming, and memorable year of learning Spanish together. ¡Nos vemos pronto!

Welcome to Short Pump Middle, Ms. Rogers!
Hello! My name is Rachel Rogers, and I am excited to join the Short Pump Middle School community as a collaborative special education teacher.
My path to education has taken me from New York to Bolivia and now Virginia. After earning my dual master’s degrees in Special Education and Adolescence Education, I taught middle school in upstate New York before spending six years in Bolivia, teaching in an international school, helping establish a special education program, teaching at a university, and leading English immersion programs throughout South America. Those experiences shaped me both personally and professionally and continue to influence the way I support students and collaborate with others.
In 2020, I moved to Virginia and have spent the past five years serving students in Chesterfield County Public Schools. This past spring, I completed my Educational Leadership and Policy Studies certificate at the University of Richmond.
I am passionate about building meaningful relationships with students, collaborating with colleagues, and helping every learner reach their potential. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to join Henrico County Public Schools and look forward to getting to know the students, families, and staff who make Short Pump Middle School such a special place.
