If a child is acting out, we ask ourselves some questions.
How does the child feel in her body? Does she need to p*e? Is something physically uncomfortable or loud?
Does the child feel safe? Are they feeling defensive around their body or their play things?
Does he have something to do? Does he need some redirecting?
Does she need to get outside and blow off some steam? Are we reasonably able to offer this option?
Can they/ are they willing to change their bothersome behavior in this moment?
Does he understand what is expected of him in this moment?
Do they need to be removed from this setting for a few minutes or longer, away from the group? And if so, what setting and comforting/ interesting things can I provide them to nourish and reset them? Do they understand that their actions have resulted in this reset?
Are they melting down and beyond reasoning?
Does she want my company or time to be alone? Can I make a tiny house for her to hide in if she wants it?
What options have I given him for returning to the group? Does he feel supported by me and connected to me?
