What does it mean to be a good player on God’s team? ❤️

At today’s school Mass, Father began by asking our students a question: “What makes a good team player?”

The students had some wonderful answers!

🏀 Supporting your teammates
🏀 Knowing what you’re doing
🏀 Trying your best
🏀 Working together
🏀 Being responsible
🏀 Not betraying your team
🏀 Not being a ball hog or selfish
🏀 Showing good sportsmanship

Father agreed that these were all important qualities, but then asked, “Can you really be a good team player if you ignore everything your coach tells you to do?”

Of course not! 🙂‍↔️🙂‍↔️🙂‍↔️

Father then asked who the coach of our Christian life is. God! Just as a good athlete listens to the coach, a disciple of Christ is called to listen to and follow Him.

Today’s responsorial Psalm reminded us, “The Lord remembers his covenant forever.” Father explained that God has continually reached out to His people throughout salvation history, ultimately giving us the new and eternal covenant through Jesus Christ, which we celebrate in the Eucharist.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us, “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.” (Luke 11:23)

Father asked the students how we might claim to follow Jesus but act against Him in our everyday lives. The students recognized that our choices matter, especially how we treat our classmates, whether we obey and how we respond when doing the right thing isn’t popular.

Father reminded us that faith is more than simply checking boxes or doing good things. Our faith must be lived through our actions. 💪🏻🫱🏻‍🫲🏿🫶🏿✌🏽

Father encouraged the students to think about the leaves scattering all around us this fall. Rather than scattering others, Jesus calls us to be gatherers, bringing people together through kindness, friendship and God’s love.

So proud of all of our St. Mark & St. Matthew runners and everything they accomplished this season!

It was so fun watching them run, improve, cheer each other on and have a whole lot of fun along the way.

Sharing a few photos from our final weekend! 🏆 We couldn’t have done it without our wonderful coaches, families and volunteers who showed up for these kids all season long. Thank you!! And how about our alumni 🦁 shout out to you all!!!

Our second graders have been learning that God gives each of us unique gifts… not just for ourselves, but so we can use them to love & serve others. 🥹🩷

Inspired by 1 Peter 4:10, they created their own “Quilt of Gifts,” filling each square with the people, talents, faith & things God has placed in their lives.

“As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” — 1 Peter 4:10

Such a sweet reminder that even at this age, our students are learning to recognize the gifts God has given them AND what He’s calling them to do with them. ✝️🫶🏼

Our Halloween Carnival is coming, and we’re collecting new or gently used toys & games to use at the carnival! 🧸🧩🎲

Have toys your kids have outgrown? Games that aren’t getting played anymore? Send them our way and give them a second life while helping make this year’s carnival extra fun for our kids! 🧡

Our 4th graders have been learning about the ways God reveals Himself to us through His creation. 🌎☀️🌙🌲

Using chalk, they created their own scenes of the natural world 👀

mountains, oceans, animals, flowers, the sun, moon & stars, all pointing back to the beauty and goodness of their Creator.

“God looked at everything He had made, and He found it very good.” — Genesis 1:31 💙

One of the things we love about Catholic classical education is that faith isn’t confined to Religion class. Whether our students are studying science, literature, history, or creating art, they’re learning to recognize truth, goodness & beauty, and ultimately, the One who created it all. ✝️

Today, on the Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels, Father Ross gave our students a pretty memorable way to think about just how valuable each of us is to God. ❤️

He started by asking the students why famous people have bodyguards. After plenty of examples from the kids 😂, Father brought it back to something much bigger: people guard what is valuable.

“The Lord has put angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.”

Father asked the students how it feels to know they are being guarded. They answered that it feels good and makes them feel safe. Father added another word: valuable.

God sees each of us as worth guarding. As Father reminded us, spiritual warfare is real, and the Church teaches us to have respect, devotion and confidence in the guardian angel God has given each of us.

A couple questions to continue the conversation at home this weekend:

❤️ How does knowing God gave you a guardian angel show you how valuable you are to Him?

❤️ When could you ask your guardian angel for help or protection this week?

Holy Guardian Angels, watch over us and pray for us. 🙏

Did you know our students attend daily Mass together at 9am, Monday and Friday? Our whole parish family is always welcome to join us!

And every Friday, Mass is followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and all-day Adoration. Come spend some time with Jesus!

Happy feast day of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, the Little Flower!

Her “little way” is all about trusting in Jesus and doing small things with great love.

That’s exactly the kind of school we’re building here at St. Mark and St. Matthew Catholic Classical School, and this painting is right here in the walls of St. Mark Church.

Whether it’s a kind word in the hallway, patience on the playground, or a quiet prayer before class, those little things matter. That’s holiness… the Little Flower’s way.

Declared a saint by Pope Pius XI in 1925, she is also known as Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus and the Little Flower, and in 1997, Pope John Paul II declared her a Doctor of the Church.

St. Thérèse, pray for our students, our families, and our school! 🌹
