Shorecrest Class of '00 Reunion

He was in a grade below us, but the latest episode of This American Life (823: The Question Trap) features Shorecrest alum and comedian Adam Ray in Part II. Adam will always be the Cowardly Lion from LFP Elementary to me, but he's clearly killing it out in the real world!

Hey Lake Forest Park Elementary School alums who were in the Wizard of Oz production in 6th grade (a niche group, I realize) - have any of you converted the VHS to DVD or a digital file? I'm working my way through a stack of old tapes and the fidelity on the Oz tape is pretty bad! If not... let me know if you want a copy of this low-fi one.

Also... I'm now remembering there were TWO casts, so obviously I'm more interested in the version I was in, lol, with Caitlin Doyle as Dorothy.

The planning committee has made the hard decision to push back our delayed 20th reunion to a 25th reunion in 2025. There were a lot of factors that went into this decision (if anyone wants details just ask) but it seems like the safe and smart bet from where we're sitting now. Hopefully 2025 finds us all just a little bit older and living in a pandemic-free world! Thanks for understanding.

Apropos of absolutely nothing... who remembers when Weezer played at Shorecrest in 1996?? This thought popped into my head late last night. Ladd Martin won this performance via radio competition (and also a bunch of Doc Martens, I think??) our freshman year. At the time my "hangout" was the hallway just off what I think was the west entrance to the cafeteria and I was sitting on a table out there listening, possibly with Eric Marshall... I was not a Weezer fan but remember thinking it was pretty cool. Who else still thinks about this from time to time? Share your stories!

Historic event: 11/06/1996 - Weezerpedia lucky guy ladd martin won the local seattle area contest to have weezer play an acoustic set in the winner's school cafeteria. in this particular case it was shorecrest high school.

Greetings class of 2000! The state of the pandemic is not what we were hoping for when we pushed our 20th reunion back a year, and the likelihood that we can safely gather this summer - without limitations or mask requirements, and without alienating those who are medically at risk or just plain nervous about Covid - we have decided to push it back another year. Our new slogan is "Take 2 in 2022!"

In the meantime, we'd love to stay connected and engaged. Please share an update and a picture if you're willing so we can start to familiarize ourselves again with each other after so many years!

I wanted to let everyone know that a teacher beloved by many, Mr. Al Johnston, died peacefully yesterday. He was diagnosed with ALS about two years ago. Mr. Johnston retired halfway through our senior year; he taught geography and social psychology. His obituary will run in The Seattle Times. He will be missed by many.

Well, the weekend of our originally planned reunion has come and gone. I spent a lot of time this weekend feeling sad that I wasn't in Seattle, that we weren't all getting together, that as a country we have responded so poorly to this pandemic. I'm disappointed we cancelled but it was 100% the right decision, and I'm just keeping my fingers triple crossed that this time next year we will have the chance to gather and celebrate together. Until then - hang in there, everyone!

This will probably not come as a surprise, but we have officially decided to postpone our reunion until summer 2021. It's a bummer of course, but celebrating our 21st reunion will be just as good as our 20th, especially without a pandemic hanging over our heads. Stay tuned for an actual date - I arbitrarily reset the event page to July 24, 2021 just for the purposes of keeping the event live. Until then - hang in there, everyone.

Ok classmates, we need some help. We want to reach out to EVERYONE in our graduating class but we can't find a class list anywhere. Does anyone have our senior yearbook and some time to type everyone's names into an Excel sheet or Google doc? Several people could work on this and divide the alphabet. This would be a huge help, thank you to anyone who can take this on!
