What he describes as setting boundaries is provocation. It’s a command. How many times has someone commanded you, and you listened didn’t get angry and said, “oh, ok. I won’t get any closer”? I think a really agitated individual would say “excuse me b*tch?! The f@$& you say to me?!” “And if she gets triggered by being called a “b*tch” now we have a full on verbal confrontation. Maybe she doesn’t get hit. Maybe! But she definitely will go home angry about the experience. Traumatized maybe.

What a GREAT weekend! Still on a high from the experience, and my work isn’t even done yet! Super thankful to for his expertise, his welcoming demeanor, awesome encouragement, & coaching throughout! Sometimes certain words just click and things make sense! There were things he said that really clicked! My technique with the barbell got so much Stronger 💪🏽, more efficient, & less painful (as much as barbells on your shoulders can get). And special thanks to & of for both hosting, adding their expertise, and being the supportive “family” that’s been there since my start of this Strength Journey with . Like the Big Brother & Sister I never had, so thankful for their encouragement & support. Oh and thanks to the “Man in Black” for reminding me that that Deadlift is my “warm-up weight”…I was really nervous before lifting it for some reason, despite it being the only lift I was confident in technique wise. Finally want to thank the Assistant Instructors, my fellow classmates/participants of this weekend, and the wonderful people of for making this a memorable event for me! I hope to one day assist at a future SFL. In the meantime…gonna get Stronger! 1,2,3…👏🏽😉

Circa 2001, second or third time I met Jesse, & the only time I took a photo with him. Little did I know how much effect he would have on my life with all the people I’ve met since meeting him that have a positive influence on me. I wish I knew him better, and trained with him longer than the 2 years I was enrolled in his school (that I didn’t even get to train as much due to hardships at the time). Thank you, Jesse! RIP your influence is a long moving ripple the pond of life!

I personally like the one certificate the most! 😁
Working together was more than just training—it was filled with meaningful conversations that left a lasting impact. As always, I learned as much from them as I hope they did from me. Their passion for bringing life-saving skills to their community is inspiring, and I can’t wait to see the positive changes they’ll bring to those who need them most.
Here’s to making a difference, Michael and Jamie!

We just got back from the 3-day Five Principles of Physical Retaliation Masterclass in Victoria at the legendary, and super humble, super nice gym taught by .dimitri & .armitage.sv . This was an absolute GREAT FOLLOW-UP to the 4-day Trauma Informed Violence Prevention Masterclass we took last July!
It just really hit home the type of violence we all ACTUALLY deal with, and all these reality based self-defense courses, and the martial arts industry at large (there are very, very few exceptions) are constantly feeding a lie to make money off people, or pay their overhead, or are delusional because they are taught by delusional people who have unresolved traumas that should’ve been taken care of with the help of a professional; therapist or psychologist, and just want so badly to be revered.
Martial arts is not a bad thing to learn or experience. You develop proprioception & attributes like balance, rhythm, coordination & timing. All things that help you learn more about yourself that can be beneficial in other areas of your life. And you can meet some life long friends! But it doesn’t cover REAL Self-defense situations that you are dealing with everyday with PEOPLE YOU KNOW and MOST IMPORTANTLY People you’re supposed to TRUST & even Love!
Real Self-defense education does cover how to deal with the real attackers, real violence, REAL, S-H-O-C-K-I-N-G-L-Y, scary ambushes (& we are not just talking about the stranger in the bathroom waiting for a victim…that’s the only thing that the general self-defense programs deal with…not talking only about that situation).
It has changed our lives forever!
And you should definitely do both of their masterclasses.
You really need to go to Rich & Pam’s Masterclasses. You’ll never need to go to another Self-defense course again. And you can enjoy the Martial Arts for its educational, cultural, hobby type experience that it is.
Their Next stops are: Oxfordshire England and Cologne Germany at the end of August, early September.

THE STANDARD!
I wish everyone understood, this isn’t about “their stuff”, as Rich says, he “doesn’t own this”. Which is why EVERYONE needs to be sharing this info for Self-defense. Just touching on what they cover to make it seem like what you’re teaching is Self-defense, is a disservice to the community you serve, especially if you know you’re really just trying to offer a course to feed & grow your student body.
I have made peace that there is a difference between Self-defense & Martial Arts. Literally, Martial Arts: “Mar” = war, “-tial” = of, of pertaining to, Art = the study and practice of…therefore Martial Art is “the study & practice of things relating to war”. War is NOT civilian catered to Self-defense. So I look at Martial Art giving people a study that can be enriching to many aspects of life but NOT GUARANTEED for Self-Defense! Richard & Pamela offer a SCIENTIFICALLY, STATISTICALLY PROVEN approach that everyone needs to learn and share in their communities! We cannot keep sharing with our communities information based on conjecture, especially just because of some lineage!
Go to their Masterclasses!!!

Just finished day two of our three day 5 Principles of Physical Defense Masterclass, held in beautiful Victoria BC at Stan Peterec’s Kombat Center.
For those living under the proverbial rock, Stan is a legendary multiple world champion in Karate, Kickboxing and Savate, trainer of several world champions, with a career spanning over 40 years.
Along with Stan and world Muay Thai kickboxing champion Lindsay Ball, also joining us in this course are Joe Rogan’s former bodyguard who is always growing and evolving, a wonderful husband and wife team, Michael Banaag and Jamie Banaag, who are passionate about helping others, and 2 of Stan’s students wanting to add to their combative repertoire. A diverse group of great humans learning and working together.
Next stop, Oxfordshire England and Cologne Germany at the end of August, early September.

Just realized…this month makes it officially 30 years in the Martial Arts. Allowed to train with Adults at the age of 13 with James DeMile’s group. 17-yrs-old became the youngest student DeMile gave an Adult Black Belt to & joined his Instructors-in-Training Program. At 19 became the youngest Certified Instructor DeMile awarded the title of “Sifu” to, and co-inherited his Shoreline School, now what feels like a lifetime ago.
Grateful for that beginning, & those that genuinely encouraged & supported that shy, low self-esteemed kid, and are still people I can call friend, brother & sister to this day. And Grateful for the people in my life now who I have met through this weird world of the martial arts that ARE my Family Now.
Look forward to helping other shy, insecure people receive the encouragement, support & meet the people that have been the kind of community I’ve been lucky to experience in my life from the positive end.
