I offer an open heart, compassion and a deep commitment to bring comfort and support to the dying and their loved ones.
During my 25-year career as a social worker and geriatric mental health specialist in skilled nursing facilities, with a focus on end-of-life care, I attended many deaths. My daughter, who was on the brink of death several times but ultimately “graduated” from palliative care, has also prepared me for this sacred work. These experiences combined inspired me to become a certified death doula. Servi

Recently I had a chance to speak to some folks at the Wallingford Senior Center about my experience being a death doula and the many benefits of having a death doula support your final transition. Click on the link to read more.
End of Life Doula Kathy told the senior center group that finding someone you trust who can listen deeply to your questions and concerns about death can help you accept and work through the intensely personal process of dying

Moment by moment…💜
I was with a man recently who was preparing to say goodbye to his wife, worried that because she was no longer talking, she couldn’t hear what he was saying. I reassured him that she hears every word he says, and feels his presence and that is what comforts her, and lets her know she is not alone.
Because I knew she would let go soon, I reminded him that when she takes her very last breath, to just be with her and sit for a moment. These moments are sacred and should not be rushed. I also believe there is still a sense of knowing in that moment, and that is when you can say goodbye. I feel like we should savor that time, as though the envelope of all that was said is sealed and ready for them to take with them.
He texted me this morning to let me know that she had died. He told me he sat with her, just being with her, and when she took her last breath, he held her hand, he whispered goodbye, and he sat in silence for almost an hour before he moved away from her and called hospice.
He said… “I have been sitting with her every day, saying everything I possibly could, making sure she takes it with her like you said she would. You were right, after she took her last breath, and I sat with her, it felt like she was savoring my presence, and I was savoring hers and that was really powerful for me.”

This so heartwarming 💜
Look for me
I'm here
in the glint of your eyes
and the lilt of your laugh
Close your eyes
there I am
where the lights glow
soft and warm
In the quiet moments
where your thoughts
drift
And in your dreams
late
late
at night
Look for me
In those moments
when you think you're alone
and you take a deep breath
and wonder
"Where have you gone?"
I'm here
by your side
holding your hand
loving you as I always have
and will
forever more

“When we die,” asked Rabbit, “where do we go?”
“Into the hearts of those who have loved us most.” said Bear. “That way we’re together forever.”
