Period poverty is a serious global problem and strongly affects college students all around. The Gender Equity Center has made it a priority to provide SCC students with free products and resources to reduce the impact of this problem. We hope no one on campus will struggle with this at all!

A reminder that Pride Foundation Scholarships are due January 6th, 2023 at 5:00pm PST. The final decision notifications will be sent May 2023. At the GEC we have made some packs for PMS and period care! They include some essentials as well as some things that are simply comforting. Come by and grab a bag (small black bags in a wicker basket by the front door). The Reciprocity Project works to uplift indigenous communities by creating short films that highlight cultural practices and ancestral lessons that persist today. In celebration of Indigenous Day they have offered an series of inspiring shorts available to watch for free.

☀️ In celebration of Indigenous Peoples' Day, Reciprocity Project is releasing the first season of films made by Indigenous filmmakers on their homelands. All of the films are free for all to see starting today on Reciprocity.org and @REI’s YouTube channels. Facing a climate crisis, the Reciprocity Project embraces Indigenous value systems that have bolstered communities since time immemorial. In Season One, storytellers and community partners created films in response to a question: What does ‘reciprocity’ mean to your community? The films of Season One include: Lessons from a Gwich’in elder to his granddaughter, a new mother, about how Gwich’in people and caribou take care of one another (Diiyeghan naii Taii Tr’eedaa by @daazhraii with @aknative) A film about the circular nature of knowledge sharing in Cherokee culture, as told by an elder and native language speaker (ᎤᏕᏲᏅ by @brit.hensel with @sideshow_kel) A recreation by a mother and son of a memory of wisdom sharing in the Wayuu community (SŪKŪJULA TEI by @davidhpalmar with @palmarflor) A story about Peskotomuhkati youth leading an intergenerational process of healing through athasikuwi-pisun, or "tattoo medicine” (Weckuwapasihtit by @niskapisuwin with @sipsography) A moment in time with the Waponahkik (the people of the dawn land) bringing gratitude to the rising sun through song and stories (Weckuwapok by @jacabbearchum, @tayhensel @noodlz2009 @_kavitapillay/ @tracyrectorart Adam Mazo and Lauren Stevens) A grandson’s record of the restoration of his family home as a way to create a place for art making for a new generation of diverse artists (Ma’s House by @jeremynative) None of these filmmakers would say they made this work alone. They all created their films on their homelands with direct collaboration and seen and unseen support from their families, communities, elders, young people, and ancestors.
