Congratulations to Camille who strived and reached her goals of completing Kumon Reading and Math Program, achieving perfect ACT and going to the college of her dream with early decision.
With her intelligence and diligence, I am so proud to know for sure that she will fulfill more dreams and achieve more goals in her future. 👍👍👍👏👏👏

Eastport-South Manor Junior-Senior High School senior Camille van der Watt has been selected as a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Camille boasts an impressive academic résumé which includes her enrollment in multiple challenging Advanced Placement courses, such as art history, biology, literature and composition, and macroeconomics. In addition to this challenging coursework, Camille is enrolled in Calculus 3 at Suffolk Community College.

Adding to her impressive academic accomplishments, Camille is an active member in several extracurricular and co-curricular activities, including Student Government and National Honor Society, and was the president of the Tri-M Music Honor Society last year. Camille also showcases her musical talents as a tuba player in both the marching band and pep band.

“It is nice to have hard work pay off,” Camille said, when asked about her selection as a semifinalist. “I worked very hard to achieve this accomplishment, and it is very gratifying to see that all of the hard work has paid off.”

Approximately 1.5 million juniors from high schools across the country entered the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test. The nationwide pool of seniors represents less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors, who will now continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships available.

In February, more than 90% of the semifinalists will be selected to advance to finalist standing, and close to half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.

There were more than 8,000 Kumon Instructors from 51 countries attending this Kumon 60th Anniversary Celebration in Japan. It was very inspiring to see more than a dozen Kumon Instructors were recognized for their 50 years in service. Many of them are in their 80s but they still want to continue to service for the children's education in their communities. That's what I am aspiring to be a life long Kumon Instructor also to help as many children's education as I can in this world.
