Math and Computer Science Day 2026! Over 150 high school students participated in a math contest, the Julia Robinson math festival, and a computer programming competition. Dr. Kennedy gave the keynote: My invisible opponents: using math to understand the world around us. Thanks to all our wonderful volunteers and amazing organizers for making the day such a success!

The math and computer science departments hosted over 170 high school students for math and computer science day! Students participated in an individual math contest, programming competition, and Julia Robinson math festival. The day ended with a talk from Dr. Kate McGivney on proofs without words.

While many know Florence Nightingale as the founder of modern nursing, she was also a statistician. She is famous for the use of the polar area diagram, equivalent to the modern circular histogram. This diagram is still used in data visualization. Florence was the first woman to be elected to Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, and she was an honorary member of the American Statistical Association.
