Math and Computer Science Day 2026! Over 150 high school students participated in a math contest, the Julia Robinson math festival, and a computer programming competition. Dr. Kennedy gave the keynote: My invisible opponents: using math to understand the world around us. Thanks to all our wonderful volunteers and amazing organizers for making the day such a success!

Spring 2025 Picnic. Celebrating the end of the 2024-25 academic year, Math Chair Dr. Renault recognizing the top Fortnightly Problem Contest solver with a prize, celebrating our Ship Math Class of 2025 while they’re sporting their Math Club graduation cords, celebrating our graduating Secondary Ed student teachers with Dr. Kennedy, celebrating all our math majors & minors and Data Science minors! We ❤️ Ship Math!

Kappa Mu Epsilon Math Honor Society celebrating the initiation of 6 new members! Congratulations!

The math and computer science departments hosted over 170 high school students for math and computer science day! Students participated in an individual math contest, programming competition, and Julia Robinson math festival. The day ended with a talk from Dr. Kate McGivney on proofs without words.

While many know Florence Nightingale as the founder of modern nursing, she was also a statistician. She is famous for the use of the polar area diagram, equivalent to the modern circular histogram. This diagram is still used in data visualization. Florence was the first woman to be elected to Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, and she was an honorary member of the American Statistical Association.

Some of our recent graduates, Joseph Aulenbacher, JaJuan Brown, and Dan Mazus, will join us for our weekly seminar to talk about their experiences in graduate school.
