Happy National Comics Day!

While not an officially recognized holiday, fan led efforts over the years have grown the day from a niche observance to a wide-spread celebration.

Check out this "Super Raider" comic, created by the staff of the Slate, celebrating the 1963 renovation of the Raider Room, a communal space in Old Main where students could relax and socialize.

Shoutout to our awesome archives Graduate Assistant, Riley MacIntyre, who created this new exhibit on the History of Homecoming.

Riley conceived of the entire exhibit on his own from finding items, researching, writing labels and setting up the display. We think he did a great job!

If you are in the library, make sure to check it out (found to the left of the microfilm reader on the main floor) and leave a note about your favorite Homecoming memory.

Thank you to everyone who showed up this morning to the reading of the preamble with President Charles Patterson and GBLUES students. Even with the unexpected location change, there was a great turnout! 🇺🇸

We also had many students come to the library to check out their artwork, featured in our new Constitution Day Exhibit.

Don't forget to visit Grove Hall tonight at 6 pm to see a lecture by Dr. Shaakirah R. Sanders on the Antiracism and the Constitution.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

Every September 15th-October 15th celebrates the culture and contributions of Hispanic and Latin Americans across the country.

We welcome you to check out our new display featuring works from Spanish-speaking authors all across the globe.

These books can be checked out so feel free to grab one that interests you and bring it to the circulation desk so we can help!

Join us on September 17 to kick off a series of Constitution Day activities brought to you by the library and the Shippensburg University Political Science Department.

To start off, university president Charles Patterson and students from the Grace B. Luhrs Elementary School will in front of the library at 10 am to read the preamble of the Constitution. Copies of the preamble will be passed around so feel free to join along!

Then, there will be a Keynote address by Penn State Dickinson Law professor, Dr. Shaakirrah R. Sanders, on Antiracism and the Constitution. Come by Grove Hall at 6 pm to hear what she has to say.

To finish off, there will be an exhibit in the library's gallery featuring artwork from GBLUES students to show what democracy and the Constitution looks like to them. The exhibit will run from September 17 - 30.

We welcome you to all of these events!

On September 11, 2001, the nation was forever changed when 2,997 people lost their lives as a result of a terrorist attack.

Beyond the devasting loss of life of that day, we continue to see the lingering effects of 9/11 by first-responders and eyewitnesses who developed chronic health conditions as a result of the debris and smoke of the Twin Towers collapse.

We also see the lasting emotional scars carried by the families who were left behind, forever changed by the loss of their loved ones.

Their experiences remind us to not only remember those we lost 25 years ago, but also the lives that were forever changed by it.

Today, students in Dr. Santalucia’s Introduction to Creative Writing and Poetry Writing classes had the opportunity to explore the university’s literary history through materials from the Archives and Special Collections with librarian Veronica Polyniak

The students began by learning about the history and evolution of the university’s literary clubs and societies before getting the chance to check out the archival materials that brought that history to life for themselves.

From 19th-century literary societies to the underground newspaper of the 1970s to the modern-day literary journal, the Reflector, students were able to trace the rich and storied history of literary expression at the university during their visit to the library.

Join us in Room 134 this Thursday from noon to 2:30pm for a fun craft event to welcome back all students to campus!

We'll be designing our own tote bags — perfect size to carry all of your library books inside 😉. We'll also have a button press available to help you learn how to make your own buttons for your new bag.

All supplies will be included! Bring your friends or come make some new ones.
