It’s official! The Wisconsin Family Child Care Association is now an affiliate of the National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC)!

This has been in the works for a while, and we’re excited to see it become a reality! A big THANK YOU to Michelle Endvick, our NAFCC State Representative, for all her hard work in making this happen. We appreciate your dedication to strengthening connections within the family child care community! ❤️

This affiliation strengthens WFCCA’s connection to the national family child care community and creates more opportunities for collaboration, shared advocacy, and support for providers.

💚 Professional development is an important part of the WFCCA Conference, but some of the most valuable moments happen outside the sessions.

It's the conversations over lunch, the sharing of ideas and experiences, the familiar faces, and the new connections. It's having the chance to talk with people who understand the work you do and the challenges and joys that come with it.

Three days of learning, fellowship, and connection. There's so much to take away from time spent together. 🧩

🧠 How many decisions do you make in a day that you really don’t need to keep making?

Maybe Monday lunch is always sandwiches. You order supplies on the first Friday of the month. You serve the same rotating group of afternoon snacks. Certain toys or materials get changed out on a regular schedule.

When something doesn’t need a brand-new decision every time, consider deciding it once and turning it into your default.

You can always change the plan when you need to—but having a default means one less thing to figure out in the middle of an already busy day. ⚡

💙 Look Beyond the Behavior

🏠 When the same problem keeps happening, it’s natural to focus on what the children are doing.

But sometimes the environment is part of the problem. Looking at the environment with fresh eyes gives you another way to make things better.

Before deciding how to change a behavior, look at what’s happening around it. Does the setup make the problem more likely? Is something children want difficult to access?

Does the space put children in each other’s way? Is the environment asking children to do something they’re not quite able to manage yet?

Sometimes changing the environment works better than trying to change the behavior. 🔎

💙 Planning Ahead

📅 Some of the things that cause the biggest scrambles in family child care aren’t really surprises.

A child aging out. A required training coming due. Vacation time. An annual form that needs updating. Supplies you know you’ll need next season.

Try looking a few months ahead on your calendar and asking: What do I already know is coming?

If something will require families to plan, paperwork to complete, money to spend, or you to make a decision, give yourself an earlier reminder to deal with it—before the actual deadline arrives. ⏰
