🔎 When something in your program is working well enough, it’s easy to leave it alone.

But improving quality isn’t only about fixing things that aren’t working. Every so often, take a second look at something that seems to be working just fine.

Is that routine still making the day easier? Are children actually using that play space? Is the way you communicate with families still working? Is there something you regularly work around instead of changing?

Pick one thing, pay attention to how it’s working now, and decide whether it needs a change—or whether you’d choose it exactly the same way again. 👀

💜 Strong Local Connections

📍 Family child care programs are rooted in local communities.

Providers often care for children from their own neighborhoods and build long-term relationships with families over time.

This ongoing connection can create stability and familiarity for both children and parents. 🌱

📣 WFCCA ELDG Position: Keep the Continuum

WFCCA supports updating WMELS to reflect current research and the needs of children, families, and early childhood professionals. However, we are concerned about age-based reference points and a developmental pathway that ends at age five in the proposed Early Learning and Development Guidelines (ELDGs).

Children do not stop developing at five, and development doesn't happen according to a calendar. Family child care providers see this continuum every day as children develop at different rates and continue building critical skills throughout childhood.

📄 Read WFCCA's position statement in the images below to learn more about our concerns and recommendations.

📝 Then review the proposed ELDGs and share your feedback with DCF: https://dcf.wisconsin.gov/eldgdraft

⏰ Comments are due Friday, August 21.

Your experience matters! Please make sure your voice is part of the conversation.

Keep the Continuum. 💜

🌱 No two days in family child care are exactly the same—and that’s part of what makes this work so meaningful.

Children bring different needs, interests, moods, and energy to each day. Family child care providers adjust right along with them, creating space for what children need that day. ⭐️

📂 Paperwork and business tasks have a way of getting pushed aside when you spend your day caring for children.

Instead of waiting until you “have time” to catch up, try setting aside a regular time each week for the business side of your program.

Maybe it’s an hour during nap time every Friday, one evening a week, or a block of time when someone else can cover for you. Use it for the things that are easy to put off—paperwork, bookkeeping, emails, planning, or whatever else has been quietly accumulating.

Try to make that time a little more appealing. Pour your favorite drink, grab a snack, put on a playlist you love, or settle in with your comfiest slippers. Pairing a not-so-favorite job with something you enjoy might even make your regular business time something you don’t completely dread. ☕🎵

💬 When do you make time for the business side of your program?

⭐ WFCCA Leadership Spotlight ⭐

💐 Say hello to Amy Nogar, Communication Coordinator for the Wisconsin Family Child Care Association.

Amy is a family child care provider in Appleton with over 30 years of experience in the field.

🏡 In her program, mud is considered a learning material, and children still teach her something new every week.

Something you may not know about Amy is that she had amazingly BIG hair in the 80s - who didn't? 😄

💬 A favorite piece of family child care advice: "Trust children. They're capable of far more than we often give them credit for."

🩷 What she appreciates most about WFCCA: "The people. It's a community of providers who really understand the joys and challenges of family child care."

We’re grateful to have Amy helping lead and connect WFCCA! 🙌

🎉 Happening NOW in Menomonie!

Our WFCCA Mini-Conference is underway! 🎈 Family child care providers are spending the day learning, connecting, and sharing ideas with one another.

🌟 Today's sessions include child-directed play, supporting challenging behaviors, provider self-care, and an interactive Wisconsin Licensing Update with Mandated Reporter Training.

💚 Thank you to our sponsors, Child Care Partnership and Chippewa Valley VILLAGE, our presenters, and to every provider who chose to invest in themselves and their program today!

📸 Stay tuned for photos and highlights from the day!
