So, hop onto your way-back machine and go back a couple of months. To be specific, early to mid-July. Remember those days of near 100º, the humidity and do you remember the smoke?? Those are the days you tell yourself in just a couple of months the weather will be so much nicer. This was one of those days. Cool and dry, lots of sunshine with a slow breeze, unlimited visibility; an early autumn day that we wish we could bottle to save for weeks.
What better way to celebrate these wonderful autumn days than to invite the Shiocton 5th graders to an afternoon at the airport? We have indoctrinated them into all things Civil Air Patrol, into why they should seek future employment into aviation, both civil and military, how airplanes defy both gravity and checking accounts, the hows and whys of aeronautical charts, how to soar among the birds in a paramotor and the basics of how airplanes work.
Unfortunately, our time with the kids always runs short and we here at W34 are forced to wait another year to be able to do this again. Thanks, as always to the 5th grade teachers for their faith in us not screwing up too badly and to the school administration in allowing these field trips to broaden young minds.
