Kristin Piano Lessons

Kristin Piano Lessons I am a classical pianist and teach piano to all ages and all levels. Serving the larger Redding area since 2024. Hi, my name is Kristin.

I am an aspiring concert pianist, and I teach beginner piano ages 5-15. My teaching method is one where lessons are tailor fit to fit each student. Some students will move through the method books faster than others. I will find what is most exciting and interesting to each specific student and work on that with them so they can learn piano in the best way for them no matter what their personality

is. For example playing songs of their choice by rote, playing by ear, transcribing, composition notation, and ear training. The method books I use are Reading Keyboard Music (RKM). I've seen many different methods, and I believe this one to be the most brilliant, straight forward method that quickly gets students reading music. If your child wants to learn to play piano, these are the books to use. The RKM series takes sight reading in a more easily understandable, visual perspective, so students can jump into classical pieces or anything of their interest. Once they are able to read notes, they'll learn theory through the pieces they play, and from when they start lessons, they will be developing piano technique as well. I teach 30 minute lessons once a week for $80 per month, or twice a week for $160 per month. I teach on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at specific times I have open. I teach from home, but if you need me to travel to your home, and I agree to, there will be a travel fee.

Hello! My name is Kristin and I coach piano to all levels and ages. Here’s a little bit about my musical background, and what you can expect when signing up for lessons!

Previously based in San Jose Ca since 2011, Kristin Piano Lessons is now based in Shingletown Ca, mostly providing services in Redding Ca. I have been teaching piano to both children and adults for over twelve years, and have studied under classical pianist, Kwok Koo for thirteen years. Mr. Koo is originally from Hong Kong where he worked as a concert pianist for the CCP; he earned his master's degree in piano performance from SF Conservatory of Music soon after immigrating to the states.

In 2014, I passed the Certificate of Merit Level 10 Advanced with 96% on the music theory test. In 2015, I placed 4th in the 21st Century music category at US Open Music Competition, and 2nd in the Duo category. In 2017, I placed 2nd in the Showcase category and 1st in the Duet. In 2019, I placed 3rd in the Showcase category at USOMC, and performed with an orchestra in spring of 2019. I studied music theory and musicianship at West Valley college from 2016-2017.I continue my own independent study and practice now working toward further performance goals in the future as I consider music to be a lifelong endeavor

I am an Ocean Grove Vendor, and offer mostly online classes to students residing in the Bay Area, but one in-person lesson per month is included.

Semi-annual recitals are typically held at a local church or a student’s home, but will be returning soon for the larger Redding area. In-home recitals continue in the Bay Area bi-annually.

-Processes for varying levels of students-

For very young students, we start by playing songs they know to sing along with, and to learn the songs by rote. We will also sing and play solfege patterns and recognize patterns on the keyboard. From age 0-5, listening to high-information music such as classical and jazz is fundamental to their musical development. When students are 4 or 5 years old, they will begin to learn how to read sheet music using the Reading Keyboard Music method. Parents usually need to be more involved at this age, but it’s not always necessary to see progress.

Beginner and intermediate students of any age are welcome. Students at these levels will learn to sight-read through Reading Keyboard Music, or may use the method to sharpen their sight-reading skills if needed. Students will learn to play using effective and efficient techniques adopted directly from a professional concert pianist, as well as historically accurate interpretation of classical music, and music theory up through college level theory.

If you are an advanced student, you must audition using a piece that you are currently studying.
