The Ponderosa High School Reader Challenge has begun! Students are challenged to read one book per quarter:
1st Quarter: Read a book that you enjoy.
2nd Quarter: Read a book that has an element of mystery, discovery, or secrets.
3rd Quarter: Read a book that contains an element of survival or endurance.
4th Quarter: Read a short book.
Students can report their progress to the library via a Google Form each quarter and submit a review of their book. They will earn a sticker for each quarter, and after collecting all four stickers, they may earn other items such as a free book, a skip the lunch line pass, and more!

The Ponderosa High School library has nearly 10,000 book circulations per year, and a student walks through the library doors 550 times per day on average, or almost 100,000 times per year! PHS Library staff conduct Book Talks during English classes and a library orientation for all 9th grade students. These are important parts of efforts at Ponderosa to encourage and sustain reading. Thank you to Jen Zimny, Teacher Librarian, and Elizabeth Carlson, Library Media Specialist, for not only encouraging reading, but making the PHS library a place that is welcoming and offers a wealth of academic and technology supports.

We were proud to award Ponderosa Athletic Booster Club President, Lisa Ridgley, with an El Dorado Union High School District, Gold Standard Coin at Back to School Night. Lisa is an excellent example to Ponderosa students and the greater community of the attributes we want to see students achieve upon graduation: critical thinker, resilient learner, effective communicator, future-ready learner, and person of character. Thank you, Lisa, for your dedication to Ponderosa, your humble and tireless work-ethic, and your tenacity and determination that has helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to support the young people of our community!

The Ponderosa Stadium Improvement Project is well underway! Stadium sound has been upgraded, new water stations installed, and the new scoreboard will go up in the next few days. The old scoreboard that has served thousands of Ponderosa students and spectators for many years has been disassembled. Thank you to our many sponsors as well as the Ponderosa Athletic Booster Club for making this project happen!
