The Shiner High School floral design program is continuing the “Flower of the Month Club”. This program allows students to gain real-world, career-focused experience while also offering creative floral arrangements to Shiner staff and community members to pick up from the school front office.
Each month, the themed arrangements will be designed and arranged by students in the Advanced Floral Design class.

Members of the Flower of the Month Club are able to purchase the arrangements at wholesale cost, with the money going right back into the classroom to purchase materials and supplies for the students to continue practicing their floral design skills.
“The Flower of the Month Club provides the students with additional knowledge and experience while providing community members with a good product at a great price,” said Amberly Sunvison, Shiner High School Floral Design teacher and FFA Advisor. “The program is designed to give students extra experience beyond the financial limits of the class.”

The deadline to sign up for the Flower of the Month Club is August 28th. If you’re interested in signing up, please fill out and return the attached ordering form to Amberly Sunvison at [email protected]

The Lone Star FFA Degree is the highest degree the state association can bestow upon a member. The Lone Star FFA Degree is designed to recognize students who have developed an outstanding supervised agricultural experience program throughout their FFA career. In order to receive the Lone Star FFA Degree, members must meet the minimum requirements as outlined in the Texas FFA Constitution, National FFA Constitution, or Official FFA Manual which includes holding the Greenhand and Chapter FFA Degrees. Welcome to the *chain gang* y'all!

Dear Exhibitors and Families,

With the livestock project selection and purchasing season upon us, we want to bring an urgent biosecurity and animal health update to your attention.

As you may have seen in recent state agricultural news, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Texas Animal Health Commission have confirmed local cases of New World Screwworm (NWS) right here in Texas. This is a highly destructive parasitic pest that has re-entered the state for the first time in decades.

Because screwworm flies are aggressively attracted to fresh, open wounds where they lay eggs to develop into flesh-eating larvae, we must take extra precautions to protect the animals housed in our ag barn as well as under your protection at your homes.

To protect your investment we ask that you work with your ag teachers to prevent, inspect and treat. Pay close attention DAILY for any cuts, scrapes, and keep pens clean while practicing fly control. Monitor wounds caused from ear tagging, dehorning, tail docking, or castrations and keep site clean. All animals housed in the ag barn must be pre-castrated and fully healed before entering our facility.

If you notice your animal having a wound that isn’t healing normally, or if your animal is showing loss of appetite or abnormal behavior please contact an ag teacher and veterinarian immediately. If you are treating animals with any medication make sure you are documenting the date, livestock tag number and the lot number of medication used to be prepared for any necessary reporting.

Meet the newest member of our team at Shiner FFA!

Ms. Martin is a double graduate of Texas A&M University and is excited to join Shiner High School as the newest Agricultural Science teacher. A graduate of Bellville High School, she grew up immersed in agriculture through being raised in a rural community, found leadership opportunities through 4-H and FFA, and enjoyed raising livestock projects with a particular passion for Beefmaster cattle. Throughout her agricultural career, she has gained experience in numerous CDE and LDE events and enjoys helping students discover their own passions within agriculture.
Ms. Martin is eager to take on new challenges and looks forward to building a successful and engaging agricultural program at Shiner. Outside the classroom, she enjoys reading, spending time with friends and family, thrifting/junking and finding new adventures wherever she can. She is excited to become part of the Shiner community and cannot wait to meet her students this fall.

That’s a wrap on 2026 Area 11 convention! Beyond proud of our Shiner FFA kids for showing so much growth, heart, and eagerness this year. Brought home a few banners, but a huge congratulations to Cade for representing Shiner FFA and winning 2nd in the talent contest!
