Good morning Governor Mifflin School District Families:

I am writing to you today to inform you of an incident which occurred this morning on the grounds of Mifflin Park Elementary and Governor Mifflin Intermediate School. During morning drop-off, two minor individuals were seen in the far corner of the Intermediate School parking lot near the transportation building. These individuals were quickly identified as not being Governor Mifflin School District students and were stopped by our School Police Officer as well as officers of the Cumru Township Police Department. These individuals and their belongings were searched and, unfortunately, an air soft gun and several kitchen knives were found in their possession. These individuals were immediately taken into custody. Because this is a police matter, we are not able to share any additional details at this time.

We are incredibly thankful to our staff members, School Police Officers, and Cumru Police Department for their vigilance and swift action, which enabled us to swiftly identify a potential threat and remove the individuals from campus without incident. We would also like to commend our School Police Officers for adhering to our district’s safety and security protocols, which allowed us to ensure a safe and orderly school arrival despite these circumstances.

I want to take a moment to remind parents that, while this is undoubtedly an unsettling occurrence, especially in light of the incident which occurred Friday, August 28, the outcome of this situation is one of the best that we could ask for and is due to the strong partnership between our local law enforcement, as well as the thorough training and preparedness of our staff, administration, and Safe Schools team. Thank you, once again, to these individuals for keeping our schools safe, both in the day-to-day operations as well as in unforeseen circumstances.

Sincerely,

Dr. Lisa Hess
Superintendent
Governor Mifflin School District

Attention Governor Mifflin School District Families:
We are reaching out to you today in regard to the events which occurred at our Governor Mifflin High School football game on Friday, August 28, 2026. In this communication, we would like to offer an expanded timeline of events, address several of the rumors currently circulating in relation to the incident, and give next steps regarding mental health resources for our student body.

First, we would like to share the timeline of events. Throughout the game, there were several members of law enforcement, including school police, local police, and PA State Police, on-site due to the large event. These officers were spread throughout the stadium for crowd-control and monitoring purposes.

During the third quarter, there was a report of a fight behind the scoreboard, which law enforcement was notified of by school employees and the Athletic Director, who were in the process of breaking up the fight. While responding officers were arriving on the scene, several students were seen running away from the scene and yelling about a student having a gun. As police were attempting to quickly assess the situation, they learned that a student reported that another student was in possession of a handgun; this incident was occurring at the same time as, but separate from, the fight.

Upon receiving this report, the Athletic Director and police agreed to promptly end the game and evacuate the stadium. A police officer was sent to the press box to advise the announcer on appropriate language to use to ensure a calm evacuation and monitor communications, while individuals from our Governor MIfflin High School administrative team worked to establish a reunification zone for evacuating students located within GMACC. As this was occurring, our Director of Safe Schools, along with a member of our Governor Mifflin High School administrative team, located the student reported to have the weapon. This student was then searched and no weapon was located on the student or in the immediate vicinity. After evacuation, the scene was secured and systematically searched by police, during which no weapons were located. Police later followed up with the individual who claimed to have witnessed the weapon and, at that time, the individual denied seeing a weapon.

There are some rumors circulating within our community that we would like to take a moment to address. First and foremost, there was no weapon found at the game, either on an attendee or within the stadium. Second, there were no shots fired within the stadium. With that being said, we highly encourage any individuals who witnessed, or have evidence of, either of these claims to please come forward to the Shillington Police.

We understand that the events of Friday evening may have been upsetting to our students, both those in attendance as well as those who may have heard about the events from others. In order to support those who may have been impacted by this experience, our school counseling team and school social workers will be available to meet with students tomorrow, August 31, 2026, during the school day. In addition, we would like to share the following resources that you, as a parent, may want to leverage to discuss Friday’s incident with your child:

Attention Governor Mifflin School District Families,
At our Governor Mifflin High School football game this evening, a student reported that another student was in possession of a weapon. Our Safe Schools team, along with local police, immediately acted in accordance with our district safety protocol in response to this report. Upon investigation, the student in question was not found to be in possession of any weapons, nor were any weapons discovered on campus.

Although this report was thankfully found to be unsubstantiated, we want to remind all of our families and students that it is always best to err on the side of caution and report any concerns regarding the safety of our students and school community to a trusted adult. Thank you for your cooperation and for partnering with us in our student’s safety.
Thank you,
Governor Mifflin School District

A great first week in Mrs. Thiele’s 7th Grade ELA! ❤️📚 We got to know each other, rescued Fred, built marshmallow towers, wrote letters to our future selves, and ended the week creating inventions just for 7th graders. Lots of teamwork, creativity, and fun along the way!

Connection is key during the first week of school, and what better way to do that than with a team building activity?!

Mr. Pennington's Tech Ed class at Governor Mifflin High School teamed up with the Unified Mustangs for a friendly tower-building competition. Using an engineer's mindset, these teams worked together to build the tallest tower possible-- a great exercise in technical knowledge as well as teamwork and collaboration! 🤝

Brecknock Elementary was feeling that patriotic spirit on Tuesday as they held their annual Flag Raising Ceremony! 🇺🇸

Our students, teachers, and staff gathered to raise a special flag that once flew over the U.S. Capitol, a symbol of our school's unity and shared values like respect, perseverance, and collaboration. With this ceremony, we celebrate the start of the school year!
