Our interviews involve an in-depth analysis of the quality of a person's experience in the child care industry. Families may assume that 20+ years of experience is best when interviewing private nannies, but that's not always the case. Our top 10 worst interviews are mostly with applicants that have decades of bad experience and have outdated practices. Experience alone doesn't indicate how attentive, interactive, and skilled a person is in the child care industry.

Any family hiring a private nanny has to pay for any training that's required for employment, so factor that into the cost of hiring a nanny on your own! Because we directly employ our nannies, we handle the cost and scheduling of all training for our team. Families do have all the perks of nanny care without the hiring and hassle!
Staying up-to-date is really important! Many nannies and teachers are certified by a daycare center to meet DHS requirements (although the lack of certification ratios for staff is a common violation for daycares in our area!) Updates are made at least every 5 years to CPR guidelines. Making sure that the material is understood and a caregiver feels confident with these life-saving skills is important too!

PARENTS! Please don't assume drug testing is done at your daycare or school. Ask about drug testing policies, including how often it's conducted, if at all. Licensing requirements do not require drug tests as part of pre-employment screening for daycares. This simple preventative measure should be expected for any person who will be caring for children!

Background checks are no joke! Licensing regulations in Arkansas only prohibit people who have 10 serious convictions from working in a daycare with exceptions for most other crimes. Parents can find those standards on the Office of Early Childhood website. While some daycares may set their own policies about other violent or drug crimes, the standard should be higher than this!
