ICE IS NOT WELCOME IN SHERWOOD. Please stay safe and spread the word as there have been multiple Sherwood residents being detained.

Know what to do in case you are present:
1. RECORD OR TAKE PHOTOS
2. RECORD DETAINEE NAME AND BIRTHDATE
3. CALL PORTLAND IMMIGRATION RESOURCE COALITION (1-888-274-7292) AND REPORT ANY INFORMATION YOU GATHER.

It can be nerve wracking but this simple procedure can be the difference between families receiving due process vs. not.

KNOW WHAT TO DO IF YOU SPOT ICE ‼️ With increased activity in Sherwood, please be aware and safe. Do not be a bystander!

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18TH 10:00-2:00PM JOIN US FOR A NATIONAL DAY OF NO KINGS.

On we stand against the rise of autocratic power and the threats to democracy. As we witness figures like Trump trying to undermine justice and equality, it’s more important than ever to remind ourselves: No one is above the law, and no one should hold unchecked power. Let’s keep fighting for a future where we, the people, decide. ✊

READ: From Bells Winery in Newberg OR‼️

Thursday, June 12, the political got very personal. The owner of our vineyard management company , Moises Sotelo, was detained by ICE. It has been both an honor and a blessing to have Moises’ hands-on expertise in our vines since 2019, and our vineyard has never looked better or healthier than in his care.

Professionally, he’s a highly respected member of the Willamette Valley wine growing community — so much so that the industry recognized him with an award in 2020. He’s truly one of the most humble, kind, and generous individuals we’ve met in Newberg, and — as owners of two small businesses ourselves — we were proud to be among his first customers when he founded Novo Start. In fact, if you’ve been following our social media feeds this year, you know that we’ve featured Moises and his second-in-command, Victoria Reader , in multiple videos as they shared what’s happening in our vineyard.

Moises has no criminal record, pays taxes, has a wonderful wife, amazing kids and grandkids, is significantly involved in his church, treats everyone he meets like family, and genuinely cares for his employees, customers, and community. He poses ZERO threat to public safety. His family is justifiably distraught, and we share their distress.

So on his behalf we’re asking for your support. As Sotelo’s family navigates the complex legal system, they have set up a GoFundMe during this difficult time. 100% of the funds raised will help with Moises’ legal fees, keep his small business going, and support the family with immediate material needs like paying rent and groceries.

During this time, no action or donation is too small. Please share his story by reposting news articles and the GoFundMe. Links to all these ways to support are available in our stories and can be found below and in our bio. Thank you to our community for supporting this invaluable member of the Oregon wine industry.

School board elections are an extremely important event that will have a direct impact on the work that our club does. We are excited to be getting involved in this year’s school board election!

During past school board elections the Sherwood Area Chamber of Commerce has hosted a forum for candidates to have the opportunity to share their thoughts on key issues affecting the Sherwood School district.

The Chamber is considered non-partisan and a neutral party.

They are hosting a candidate forum for positions that are running opposed and unopposed.

The Forum will be held in Sherwood City Hall.

High Level Schedule
5:30-6:00pm Arrival
6-7:30pm Candidate Forum
7:30-8:00pm Departure

Questions asked will be directly correlated to School Board position work. The moderator will lay out the ground rules for the forum at start. These will be distributed in advance.

Each candidate will have the same amount of time for responses. There will be no exchanges between candidates.

Outside of the standard set of questions that will be distributed in advance, questions will be taken from the community and screened for their applicability to the school board work. (those will also be distributed in advance)

The community will not be asking questions directly. The moderator will be the only person asking questions. The moderator is a neutral party from the Chamber Board of Directors who does not have children in the Sherwood school district.

The forum will be recorded and distributed to the community. Our hope is to provide education to our Sherwood community.

We want to re-iterate that this is not a political debate, this is an informational forum.

We hope you all will attend. Let me know if you have any questions at all.
