This week, our preschool engineers explored levers, one of the six simple machines! Throughout the week, we discovered that levers help us lift and move heavy objects, using less effort. We experimented with homemade levers, built mini seesaws, and investigated everyday tools like tongs, staplers, scissors, and wheelbarrows to see how they make work easier. Our class practiced making predictions, testing ideas, and thinking like engineers. We also strengthened our fine motor skills by using tongs during hands-on challenges and learned new vocabulary, including lever, lift, balance, heavy, light, and fulcrum.

For our final week exploring the amazing world of water, our preschool learners became engineers! Using recycled materials and a variety of craft supplies, they designed and built their very own boats before putting them to the ultimate test—would they float?

This hands-on STEM activity encouraged children to think creatively, solve problems, make predictions, and test their ideas through trial and error. As they experimented with different materials and designs, they discovered how size, shape, weight, and balance affect whether an object floats or sinks. Most importantly, they learned that making changes and trying again is an important part of learning!

What a fun way to wrap up our water study while building curiosity, confidence, and critical thinking skills!

Yesterday we learned about different systems farmers might use to irrigate their crops. Today our STEAM challenge was how to use the pipes and the water pumps to create a system of irrigation for our classroom plant, which was set up on a separate table. Watch how our preschoolers explored the materials set out to create a plan and then tweak the plan to make it even better!

Our water scientists are beginning to notice what happens to living things when they don’t have enough water. We have been watering one plant in our science center and not watering the other so we can observe the changes that happen.

Learning through play!
Today during stations, these two young scientists explored measurement by using tape measures to compare objects around the science center. Hands-on learning helps build early math, problem-solving, and observation skills.
