✊🏼Teaching sign language alongside letter sounds is extremely beneficial because it engages multiple senses at the same time.
👧🏽 Children are not only hearing the sound and seeing the letter, but they are also making a physical movement with their hands. This multi-sensory approach helps strengthen memory and learning.
Some key benefits include:
🔠 Improves letter-sound recognition: Associating a sign with a letter sound gives children another way to remember phonics concepts.
👀 Supports different learning styles: Visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners all benefit when instruction includes movement, sound, and sight.
🗣️ Increases language development: Sign language helps children connect words, sounds, and meanings, which can support vocabulary growth.
📚 Builds early literacy skills: Research shows that multi-sensory phonics instruction can improve phonemic awareness, an important foundation for reading.
🗣️ Supports children with communication challenges: Children who are shy, have speech delays, English language learners, or have special needs can use signs to communicate while verbal skills develop.
👯 Improves focus and engagement: Young children often learn better when movement is involved. Signing keeps them actively participating during lessons.
🧠 Strengthens memory retention: The physical action of making a sign creates an additional memory pathway, making it easier for children to recall letter sounds later.
🩵💛For example, when learning the letter M, a child sees the letter, hears “/m/,” says “/m/,” and makes the corresponding sign. The brain creates multiple connections to the same concept, making learning more meaningful and memorable🩵💛

It was our honor to sponsor and attend United Way of Grayson County’s 4th Annual Strong Women Who Do Luncheon. Each year, this event celebrates the amazing and selfless work by women in our community while supporting programs like United Way's Tiny Toes that create meaningful and life changing experiences for mothers and young children.
We enjoyed hearing the keynote speaker, Michelle Castle, along with her fun activity. Hoping all the moms out there take some time this weekend to relax and refill their “cup”. Congratulations to all the women who were recognized today!! Thank you for making our community an amazing place for children and moms.
