📚 Happy International Literacy Day! 📚

At Heart of Texoma Montessori Academy, literacy begins long before a child reads their first book independently.

It begins with conversation and storytelling.
With sounds, letters, and carefully chosen words.
With little hands tracing, writing, labeling, reading, researching, and discovering.
And eventually, with a child realizing that words can open an entire world to them. ❤️

From our youngest learners developing language to our elementary students using reading and writing to explore history, science, culture, and the world around them, literacy is woven throughout the Montessori experience.

Today, on International Literacy Day, we celebrate every step of that journey—and every child discovering the joy and independence that comes from being able to read, write, communicate, and understand.

There is something incredibly special about a Montessori toddler community. 🤍

It is a place where little hands learn to pour, carry, wash, prepare, choose, care, and try again. Each day, our toddlers are building independence, developing language, learning how to be part of a community, and discovering just how capable they truly are.

We are excited to share that we will soon be opening an additional toddler environment at Heart of Texoma Montessori Academy. This new space will allow us to welcome more children into the same peaceful, purposeful, and nurturing community reflected in these sweet moments from our current toddler environment.

Growing our goals for the year! 🌳✨

Our students began by tracing leaves from the Botany Cabinet, carefully pin-pricked each shape, and then added something very special: a goal for the year beginning with “I want to learn…”

Each finished leaf was added to our classroom tree, creating a beautiful reminder of all the things our students hope to discover, practice, and accomplish this year. 🌿

🌱 Roots & Wings at HOTMA 🪽

This week, we celebrated one of our favorite HOTMA traditions—Roots & Wings! 💙🧡

Throughout the day, each classroom celebrated in its own special way with crafts, snacks, peace walks, and activities centered around Montessori, peace, community, and connection.

Then we all came together for a very special guest… Dr. Maria Montessori herself! 😉 Ms. Gracie brought Dr. Montessori to life and shared with our students the story behind her fabulous Montessori method and one of the ideas at the very heart of it: we are all connected—to one another, to our communities, and to the world around us. 🌎

Roots & Wings is a chance for us to celebrate both where we come from and where we are going. Our roots are grounded in more than 100 years of Montessori philosophy, while our wings represent the children who will carry those lessons of independence, curiosity, compassion, and peace into the future.

We are so proud to be celebrating four years of HOTMA and grateful for every child, family, and staff member who has become part of our story.

Imagine an elementary experience…

Not confined to a desk, but free to move, explore, and engage.

Not being told what to think, but learning how to think.

Not simply, “This is what you’re learning today,” but instead, “Look at everything there is to discover.”

Where movement has purpose.
Where responsibility is practiced.
Where grace, courtesy, independence, and respect aren’t extras—they’re part of the curriculum.

Where children are challenged academically while also being trusted to ask questions, make connections, solve problems, work together, and take ownership of their learning.

Where each day isn’t only about preparing students for the next grade, but guiding them toward the capable, curious, thoughtful people they are becoming.

✨ And so, the magic of a new school year begins... ✨

From some of our youngest friends receiving lessons on the simple grace and courtesy of pushing in a chair, to our Upper Elementary students gathering for class meetings and beginning to build their classroom community—HOTMA is back in motion. 💙🦉

This first week has been filled with new lessons, familiar routines, hands-on exploration, big questions, new friendships, growing independence, and lots of joyful moments in between.

We've watched children explore the human body, create at the light table, curl up with a good book (sometimes in full astronaut gear 🚀), work with Montessori materials, reconnect with friends, and settle into the rhythm of their classrooms.

These moments may look small, but this is where so much of the magic happens. A lesson becomes a skill. A routine builds independence. Curiosity becomes discovery. A classroom becomes a community.

We're only a few days in, and already there is so much learning happening throughout our school.

Here's to the beginning of another beautiful year at HOTMA. 🌱✨

🍦 Well… that wasn’t exactly the plan! 😂

We had the playground all ready for tonight’s Ice Cream Social—co****le, ladder ball, sandbox and water play, bubbles, music, pop-up canopies, tables… the works!

Then, about 30 minutes before everyone was supposed to arrive, the sky turned DARK. The wind picked up, canopies and tables started going over, and suddenly spoons and napkins were flying across the playground. 😳💨

So we did what our HOTMA community does best—we rallied!

Everything came inside, the After School room became our impromptu Ice Cream Social headquarters, co****le and ladder ball moved into the hallway, Ms. Sarah started making balloon animals, some of our kids got a karaoke machine going, and the ice cream kept flowing. 🍨🎈🎤

Was it the evening we envisioned? Not even close. 😂

Was it still full of laughter, children, families, ice cream, and community? Absolutely. 💙

Thank you to everyone who joined us tonight and happily rolled with our very last-minute change of plans. Sometimes the memories we don’t plan for turn out to be some of the best ones.

Parent Orientation Night 💙

There’s something special about beginning a new school year together.

Last night, our classrooms were filled with parents and guides connecting, asking questions, learning about the year ahead, and building the partnerships that make our Montessori community so strong.

We’re grateful to every family who joined us for Parent Orientation and took the time to step into their child’s classroom, meet with our team, and prepare for the year ahead.

A beautiful evening of connection—and such a good reminder that education works best when school and home walk alongside one another. 🦉

🦉 Teacher In-Service Week: Behind the Scenes at HOTMA

While our classrooms may be quiet this week, our campus certainly isn't!

It's only Tuesday, and our team has already been hard at work preparing every detail for an incredible 2026–2027 school year.

So far we've...
🪵 Sanded and repainted classroom tables.
✨ Cleaned and sealed our flooring.
📚 Organized teacher closets.
✂️ Replenished classroom supplies—including paper, tape, paint, markers, crayons, scissors, and so much more.
🏫 Transformed our Elementary Summer Camp space into our new Upper Elementary classroom.
🗂️ Built 30 new student files for the children joining our HOTMA family this year.
🖇️ Replenished and replaced books in our library

And we're just getting started!

Over the rest of the week, our teachers and staff will continue preparing classroom environments, participating in professional development, collaborating as a team, welcoming families at Parent Orientation and our Ice Cream Social, and putting the finishing touches on everything before students arrive.

Montessori is built on the belief that the environment is the "third teacher." Every shelf that's organized, every material that's prepared, and every classroom that's thoughtfully arranged is done with intention—because we know those little details create meaningful learning experiences for our students.

We can't wait to welcome everyone back next week! 💙🦉
