We also have fun things in other albums! I have been teaching a film production class to teens and occasionally middle-school aged children since 2014. My approach to teaching film production is very hands-on: We generally begin with some film history, a discussion of the importance of story-telling, and then we dive into the 5 stages of filmmaking: development, pre-production, production, post-pr
oduction and even distribution. The class will decide what projects it wants to take on, and we will tackle creating scripts from scratch. As our stories develop, we move on to figuring out locations for filming, assembling costumes, gathering props, and light rehearsal through acting workshop activities. Once we have made it through the developmental and pre-production stage, we move on to filming and actual production work. I generally require every student to spend time both in front of, and behind the camera. We employ the use of green screen methods, practical and limited digital effects, and occasional drone work where possible. I engage students in as many various aspects of production as I can, from make-up to choreography and of course, acting, to try to encourage the wide array of interests in my group. At its core my class teaches collaboration, teamwork, effective communication, and perseverance.
