We had an interesting start to the school year with the first day of school coinciding with FFA Day at the Martin County Fair! Thanks to some great subs (retired teachers Kathy Neppl and Garla Nau Anderson), our classes kicked off with a bang while the ag teachers were at the fair. The STEM class started their school year off by completing the Pringles Challenge - trying to create a free-standing ring of Pringles. Pretty cool!

MCW FFA members had a great showing yesterday at the FFA shows at the Martin County Fair! The weather was beautiful, and it was evident that our members have worked hard with their animals. All FFA and 4H exhibitors wore green Live Like Leighton shirts to honor their friend and peer, Leighton Hugoson.💚

Fun fact: FFA members can continue to participate in some programs until they are 21! We’d like to congratulate one of our members, Ryelynn Forsberg. She will be receiving her American FFA Degree at the National FFA Convention in October. Ryelynn is off doing great things at the University of Northern Iowa!

Thursday is FFA day at the fair, and our livestock show will start at 8 am in the Livestock Arena with meat goats, then move to sheep, beef and swine. Here is the order of events. The rabbit show will happen at 11 in the rabbit barn. Dairy classes will happen after the conclusion of 4H dairy.

If you are interested in participating in FFA activities this year, make sure to fill out this google form. If you are interested in trap shoot, please fill it out ASAP and mark that you are interested and which shoots you can go to!

Please complete this form AND turn in your FFA dues ($22 for high school, $15 for junior high). Dues must be turned in by Friday, September 11th (or earlier if you are participating in any activity).

Members and Ms. Tewes had a great time visiting Meadow Forge to pick flowers and make bouquets to take home this morning.

The owner, Hilary C., also took time to talk with our members about how she got started with Meadow Forge, the different varieties of flowers she grows, and what goes into running a flower farm business.

A big thank you to Hilary for welcoming MCW FFA and sharing her knowledge with us!
