COVID and the bus shortages have delayed the start of our music ensembles, but I hope to get them started after fall break. If your child is a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader and interested in joining choir or Orff Ensemble, have them see Mrs. Dennis for a sign-up letter with more details. You can also visit this page for more details: https://sites.google.com/bullitt.kyschools.us/cgesmusic/students
2nd grade created fall landscapes with secondary colors. The medium is oil pastel.
1st graders created fall landscapes with warm colors. They learned how to use capital and lowercase Y’s to draw their trees. The art is mixed media with crayon and tempera paint.
Mrs. Greenwell’s 4th grade class had a chance to explore centers today. Several students chose to explore forced perspective photography. Check out these optical illusions created by playing with perspective and distance.
4th grade explored perspective and shadows to create these roasted marshmallows. The marshmallow appears bigger because it is closer to the viewer. The fire is smaller because it is in the distance. We also created glowing light and shadows on our marshmallows. The medium is oil pastel.
2nd grade classes began the year focused on three pitches-do, mi, and sol. Here, Mrs. Wells’s class is performing “One Potato” on xylophones.
In August, Mrs. Hopkins’s 5th grade class reviewed rhythms and performed “We Are Cedar Grove” on hand drums.
5th grade explored drawing techniques to create self portraits. We love seeing their personalities in their Viking Selfies.

4th graders are on a Voyage for a great year!
They explored techniques with watercolors and used the painted paper to create a collage. Here are their mixed media Viking Ship Seascapes.
Every Viking Needs a Shield!

2nd Graders used symmetry to cut a Viking helmet. They decorated their helmet with a variety of line patterns and learned to spell their name in Viking Runes.
1st Graders are Ship Shape! In art, students learned about seascapes and used shapes to draw a Viking ship. Medium: oil pastels on construction paper

One a penny, Two a penny!
One a penny, Two a penny!
One year ago... my students were singing happily on a crowded bus.
One year ago... my students were on their last field trip.
One year ago... my students were preparing for their last concert.
One year ago... my fellow music teachers tried to stay calm even though we had heard rumors of what might come.
One year ago... when we returned to school, we learned that our concert that evening was cancelled.
One year ago... we learned we would have one more day with our students before our “2 weeks to flatten the curve”.
One year ago... we truly had no idea what was really coming.
One year ago... I instinctively pulled out my phone to record our final dress rehearsal for the music festival... and I am so grateful that I did.
In honor of all we have endured this past year...
and with hope that we are on the right path to return to normal...
I am sharing my students’ final performance.
I hope you enjoy these combined groups from 3 schools.
