This morning, a dream became a reality.

I taught my very first SUP Yoga class on the Potomac River…something I’ve been dreaming about for years.

And while I’m incredibly proud that I finally took the leap, what I loved most about this morning was watching my first crew take THEIR leap, too.

Getting on a paddleboard.
Trying something they hadn’t done before.
Wobbling. Laughing. Finding their balance.
Trusting themselves enough to keep going.

Because isn’t that what we’re really practicing?

Not just yoga.
Not just balance.
TRUST.

Trust yourself.
Trust your body.
Trust that you don’t have to be perfect at something to enjoy it.
Trust that it’s okay to be a beginner.
Trust that sometimes the best experiences happen when you step just outside your comfort zone.

Trust that your yoga teacher can drive a SUV with trailer attached 😉😘

SUP Yoga is a little bit of all of that.

And maybe you’ve been thinking, “I’d love to try that, but I’m not sure I can.”

YOU CAN ❤️

You don’t need to be an experienced yogi. You don’t need to be a paddleboarding expert. You just need to be willing to try.

I’ll take care of the rest.

This morning was my first class, but I have a feeling there are going to be a lot more beautiful mornings like this and I’d love for you to be part of one 🏄‍♀️ 🌊🧘‍♀️

Trust yourself.
Trust the process.
Take the leap.

I’ll see you on the water.

The first full week back to teaching is brutal. Plain and simple.

Exhausted doesn’t even begin to cover it.

But then there are moments like this.

I was completely tricked by my middle schoolers. They jumped with me the first time, so naturally I thought we were doing it again… nope. They got me good.

And then there are the moments you don’t plan for.

This week, a former student who is now a JUNIOR in high school literally yelled to his friend to stop the car so he could jump out, run over, and give me a hug. I taught him in 2nd grade and 6th grade.

Those are the moments that stop you.

Because eventually you realize that maybe the thing students remember most isn’t the lesson you taught, the assignment they completed, or the grade they earned.

They remember how you made them feel.

Like they mattered. Because they do.

I also matter as a human being, and honestly, I’m not sure how much longer I can do this teaching thing. Every year seems to get a little harder, and some days the exhaustion is numbing.

I’m incredibly grateful for a strong school, an amazing team, and most of all, the relationships that somehow make the hard days worth it. I'm grateful to have landed at my school and don't take it for granted.

Maybe that’s the reminder I needed this week:

We don't always get to see the impact we have while we're making it. Sometimes it shows up years later, when a teenager jumps out of a car just to give you a hug.

And sometimes it shows up in a hallway full of middle schoolers who go ALL IN to trick you.

I'm finding a balance of my own life and teaching so I can keep showing up. I encourage you do the same. xo
