🎸 It's Teacher Tuesday, and apparently we're collecting musicians now.

Everyone, meet Sean Cole! The newest addition to the Wind Gap crew!

Sean has been playing bass for 10 years, has played with approximately a million bands around the area (give or take), and is currently studying music education at Shepherd University. He's also the bassist and leader of the local band Milkweed.

Bass is his main thing, but he's got more than one instrument up his sleeve. Because apparently being good at one wasn't enough.... that happens a lot with us teachers.

We're happy to have him around here, and he's officially available for lessons! Go snoop through his bio and book some time with him on our website.

AND while I have your attention, Milkweed is trying to raise money to record their first album! Making music is expensive (ask me how I know), so if you've got a few bucks to spare or feel like helping some local musicians make a record, here's your chance, link is in the comments.

Yesterday was a little bit of a dream come true. Actually a HUGE dream come true.

When I dreamed up Wind Gap Music, I always imagined it being more than a music store. A place where music happens. Where people come together, learn from each other, try something new, and feel like they belong or can just have somewhere to escape reality. Whether you've been making music your whole life or you're just finding your way to it.

Yesterday, I got to watch a little piece of that dream come to life.

We didn't just talk about the blues. We played them. We wrote our own. We watched incredible musicians do their thing, and we watched people with little to no musical experience step completely outside their comfort zones and jump right in.

And I wish I could bottle up the energy that was in this little shop.

No expectations. No prerequisites. Just music.

Thank you to everyone who helped make our first community event something so special.

It was only a matter of time before one of these came through that door.

On the 4th and hopefully final round of tuning. Approximately 7,000 strings as you can see. One increasingly concerned skeleton supervising the operation. 💀

If the music gods could kindly keep every string intact, that would be GREAT.

🎶 Curmudgeon Corner with Pat!

Did you know some pretty famous songs have borrowed a little inspiration from classical music and other artists?

🎸 Ozzy Osbourne's Diary of a Madman draws from classical guitarist Leo Brouwer's Étude No. 6.

🎹 Eric Carmen's All by Myself borrows from Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2.

🎸 And Nirvana's *Come as You Are bears a striking resemblance to Killing Joke's Eighties.

Musical borrowing is nothing new. Composers and musicians have been building on each other's ideas for centuries, sometimes with permission, sometimes without, and sometimes with a lawsuit or two along the way.

Which raises an interesting question: Where does inspiration end and imitation begin?

It officially feels like fall out there today. 🍂
Seems like a pretty good day to wander around a little music shop and see what weird and wonderful things you might find.
Case in point: this button box. 🪗
It’s old. It’s cool. It’s a little unusual. It's impressively loud. And yes, it’s for sale.
We’re here until 3 today. Come poke around.

Got to sit in the shop and listen to these guys work up the set for next week the other night, and it was seriously cool to watch.
They’re covering a LOT of ground for this event: blues, jazz, rock, even some zydeco .... working through different styles, figuring it out together, and putting together a really fun set.

Space is limited in our little shop, but that’s also part of what makes events like this so special. We hope you’ll join us on the 10th!
