Shepherd University IEEE Student Branch

Shepherd University IEEE Student Branch IEEE develops your professional identity in IEEE's designated fields of interest: sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

We have lead and hosted several community outreach programs, such as, project management workshops, FLL events, and a STEM conference aimed towards middle school girls. All of these programs offered networking opportunities, certifications, accolades, and growth opportunities that aren't offered in the classroom. We have traveled, competed, designed and built innovative projects to expand upon cur

riculum objectives. We are constantly researching and building new projects that could, one day, help advance humanity. We are also closely working with the local school systems to help and encourage girls to pursue higher education in the STEM fields.

Dear Friends,
The latest news I have to share is Professor Kit Romano will have funeral services and be buried in his hometown of Bluefield, WV. As of right now his family is in talks with the university to do something for him and all his students in honor of his life and legacy here at Shepherd University. As soon as the plans are complete we will announce them here. Please continue to share your stories. You may inbox me personally. I am going to try to put all the stories together in a scrap book for his family and one for our library here at Shepherd in Kits honor. Please feel free to send letters, pics, videos. Spread the word please. We want this to be as big as he was in life. ❤️

It's with great sadness we announce our beloved programming teacher Kit Romano passed away yesterday. He was loved by many thousands of students he taught over the years. He was a fixture in our education and the shepherd campus. There will never be another Romano. Our hearts are heavy. As soon as funeral arrangements are released we will announce them.

Special Message from IEEE President Karen Bartleson

Statement in response to concerns expressed by IEEE members around the world...

IEEE, The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Incorporated, believes that governments of all countries must recognize that, in a world of increasing global connectivity, science and engineering are fundamental enterprises, for which openness, international collaboration, and the free flow of ideas and talented individuals are essential to advancement.
Every country benefits from attracting, and competing for, the best and brightest scientists and engineers from around the world to study, teach, conduct and collaborate on research, innovate new technologies, and start commercial endeavors. Science and engineering lead to enhancements in quality of life and ultimately build economic prosperity and security. All countries should develop and maintain immigration and visa policies that encourage, facilitate, and protect the ability of people, from around the world, to engage in these types of science and engineering activities.
Diversity is an important and valued strength; IEEE is committed to the realization and maintenance of an environment in which scientists and engineers, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, or nationality, have the right to pursue their careers without discrimination. Science, engineering — and humanity — prosper where there is freedom of movement, association, and communication.
