"The foundation of JHMS is rooted in core traditional values of respect, humility, honesty, trust and loyalty. Am I living life to my potential?

Each of these has a distinct definition, but their application will be unique to everyone." Be Your Best

Our mission is to connect with people and guide them on their journey to self-awareness. Reaching a level of mental and physical confidence, a person can empower him or herself to be their best. We all face challenges everyday at home, school and work. At times, a person might find him or herself wondering:

"What is the purpose of life? Is there more I can do?"

We at Jong Hap Mu Sool (JHMS) Martial Arts provide an environment where a person can nurture his or her internal growth through the mental and physical disciplines of martial arts. We focus on cooperative rather than competitive learning practices to help each student reach their individual potential. By creating strong unity in the studio, we can collectively reach greater goals by helping our community, our state, this nation, and the greater world. Along this journey, a person can discover their purpose and unique potential, and can contribute towards making this world a better place. In order to build this momentum, one must begin with the individual. The foundation of JHMS is rooted in core traditional values of respect, humility, honesty, trust and loyalty. Each of these has a distinct definition, but their application will be unique to everyone. As the student progresses on this journey, these values will provide strong roots where they can nurture their full and boundless potential. This inner realization is the building block of this martial art system.

Beyond the Belt

Martial arts is not simply time spent learning techniques.
It is not a process of changing the color of a belt.

Martial arts is a path that builds a person.

Through martial arts, we train the body —
but what is truly being trained is the mind.

Strong bodies are built through practice.
Strong minds are built through choice.

The choice to come to training even when you are tired.
The choice to repeat something even when it is difficult.
The choice to try again when it does not go well.

Those choices, repeated day after day, make you stronger.

Martial arts teaches respect —
respect for your instructors, teammates, family, and yourself.

Martial arts teaches humility —
the courage to admit you are not yet perfect,
the willingness to keep learning,
the determination to stand up again after you fall.

Skill can be displayed. Character is revealed.
Technique can improve quickly. Character is refined over time.

Mistakes are okay. Falling is okay.
But one thing is never acceptable:

Quitting.

Finish what you start.
Stand firm in difficulty.
Rise again.

That is the first spirit of martial arts.

We are not simply building strong athletes.
We are building strong individuals —
people who overcome themselves,
people their families can be proud of,
people who live with respect and humility.

Martial arts is not about defeating others.
It is about conquering yourself.

That is why we walk this path.
