The Wildlife Biology students dissected Barn Owl Pellets last week as part of their Aves Unit on birds. As they have just finished their Mammalia unit, they are exploring one of the many relationships between birds and mammals.
As they dissected their pellets, they sorted out each bone they found. Once they took inventory, they graphed and analyzed their data. They then acted as the Wildlife Biologist by using their own Owl Pellet data to draw conclusions about the owl's diet, its ecosystem's health, and the small mammal population in the area.
We saw lots of mole, shrew, and mouse bones and they were particularly excited to find fully in-tact skulls!
Great work Mrs. Beers and Wild Life Biology students!
