Shelton Preschool The Oldest Private Nonprofit Preschool in Shelton, WA & Mason County. Our school is divided into 2 grade levels, each containing two classes.

the pre-K classes are made up of 15 students who are between the ages of 4 and 6 years of age and will be entering kindergarten the following fall. The preschool classes are made up of 10-15 students between the ages 2 and 4 years of age who will not be going to kindergarten the next year. You have the choice of 2, 3, and 5 day per week classes. The population of our preschool is made up of students from the city of Shelton as well as those residing in the surrounding Mason County areas (Union, Allyn, Grapeview, Hoodcanal, Lilliwaup,Harstine, etc). We also have students who reside in Thurston county. Our students are comprised of various races, religions, and income backgrounds. We have had children in our school from Mexico, China, Japan, and Russia who started school speaking nothing but their native tongue, and proceeded to learn English during their time at the preschool. Shelton Preschool does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations. Our day begins with free play, allowing the child to choose between such things as computers, manipulatives, sensory-motor, housekeeping, and art. Free play encompasses all aspects of developement: cognitive, social-emotional, and sensory motor. We then clean up and move on to circle time where we discuss the days of the week and months of the year, weather, theme for the day, and show-n-tell. Moving forward, we work on our projects for the day. This time is spent building our fine motor skills through, arts and crafts, cooking, science projects, writing and cutting. By now our bodies are ready to "wiggle" so we happily improve our gross motor skills through music and dance, or games. As our day comes to a close, we sit down for a story then enjoy a quick, healthy snack before heading home.

Welcome to Our Preschool Family!

Dear Preschool Families,

Hello! My name is Brittney McClure, and I am so excited to introduce myself as your child’s new preschool teacher! I am looking forward to getting to know each of your children and families and creating a classroom where every child feels safe, loved, encouraged, and excited to learn.

My journey with the preschool began as a parent when my own child attended here, and I was given the opportunity to work with the children and quickly fell in love with it. What started as volunteering grew into something that became very important to me. I loved being part of a place where children could learn, play, make friends, and grow into their own personalities. Over time, my involvement with the preschool grew, and I am very excited to now step into the role of teacher.

A little about me: Before stepping into this role, I spent several years working in EMS. That experience taught me patience, responsibility, how to stay calm in stressful situations, and most importantly, how to care for people when they need support. I believe many of those skills carry over naturally into working with young children and their families.

Teaching has also always been a part of my life. My mother has been teaching for over 20 years, so I grew up around classrooms, lesson planning, school activities, and the dedication that goes into helping children learn. I was fortunate to gain classroom experience alongside her and see firsthand how important it is to create a space where children feel comfortable, supported, and confident.

I believe preschool should be a place where children learn through play, creativity, exploration, movement, and hands-on experiences. At this age, children are learning so much more than letters and numbers. They are learning independence, kindness, problem-solving, how to express themselves, and how to be part of a classroom community. My goal is to encourage all of those skills while making sure they have plenty of fun along the way.

I also believe communication between families and teachers is extremely important. Please always feel comfortable reaching out with questions, concerns, or anything you think would help me better support your child.

I am very excited for this new chapter and for all of the memories we are going to make together this school year. Thank you for trusting me to be part of your child’s preschool experience. I cannot wait to see what this year brings!

Our final day of Summer Camp was the perfect way to wrap up an amazing week! We spent the day playing outside, creating our own goodie bags, and finishing with everyone's favorite treat—s'mores! 🏕️☀️🔥

Thank you to all of our campers and families for making this such a fun and memorable week. We made new friends, shared lots of laughs, and created memories that will last long after summer ends. We can't wait to see everyone again at our next adventure!
