8th Grader Recognized
I couldn't let the week finish without giving a very big congratulations to our 8th Grade French Horn player, Evan Runia - he was in Des Moines yesterday playing with the All-Iowa 8th Grade Honor Band - the highest musical honor available to 8th grade band students in Iowa! Great job Evan on all the hard work you have put into practicing and playing! Congratulations on this honor and for representing Sheldon Christian at the concert!

Jog-A-Thon News!
The totals are in for the Jog-A-Thon Fundraiser that the kids did for Sheldon Christian's internet update! The kids ran 319.38 miles TOTAL! That is like running across Iowa! They ran a total of 1,396 laps around the school grounds! They raised $18,000 for the internet upgrades for their school! This is super exciting! 1st Grade ran the most laps! The kids in each class that ran the most laps are: Brody Granstra, Kindergarten - 13 laps! Lennox Stover, 1st Grade - 14 laps! Lincoln Van Veldhuizen, 2nd grade - 12 laps! Lincoln Stover, 3rd grade - 14 laps! Kendall Heynen, 4th grade - 25 laps! Samuel De Kam & Brom Schultz, 5th grade - tied at 20 laps! Mya Heynen, 6th grade - 25 laps! James Diaz, 7th grade - 22 laps! Eddie Wieringa, 8th grade - 26 laps! Awesome job kids!

The Sheldon Christian Board invites you to join them in a farewell for Mr. Schoonhoven and celebrating his 5 years of service to Sheldon Christian. Please join the board after the 8:30 am chapel on Thursday, May 22 for cake and refreshments to wish him well!

Today - Band Playing Downtown Sheldon
The 6th - 8th Band will be playing downtown Sheldon 11:30 -12:00 pm today, Tuesday, May 13, come and enjoy some music! They will be playing across from Uptown Threads. Also 5th grade band will be performing in the basement of the Christian Retirement Home at 2:30 pm today!

Because of the warm temps tomorrow yet, Mr. Schreur will be doing slip N slide PE for 4th grade - 8th grade! Please bring an extra set of clothes, and dark shirt and shorts to wear during PE. This is for Monday, May 12!

WALKING WITH MARGARETT SHOE FUNDRAISER
Shoes have been sent off! WE GATHERED 208 PAIRS OF SNEAKERS! GotSneakers issues checks on the 1st of the month. Unfortunately, we will be receive ours while school is out. We plan to still present our gift to Margarett during the summer. If you have any desire to support this fundraiser more, school will be taking monetary donations to add to the total funds. The 1st graders helped bag up all the shoes to be sent away! We hope that with this fundraiser we can bless the Travaille family and shine a little of Jesus’ light.

Psalm 100:5 states "For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations."

This is on the wall of the cafeteria here at SCS, and we have witnessed the truth of this verse this week with Grandparent's Day. We had over 160 grandparents in the building, spending time in the classrooms, witnessing their grandchildren in school and spending time eating with them. The day was ended by Kindergarten - 5th grade performing their Musical "In the Big Inning" with 2 performances.

Thank you grandparents for being such a support system to not only your grandchildren, but for Sheldon Christian School as well. Your commitment and love for your family and the school family is very evident! We love to see so many faces enjoying a school day with us!
