Northside Early Childhood Center In 2014, Shelby County Public Schools wanted to consolidate the many preschool programs they had throughout the district into one building.

They built our current building on the grounds that once housed Northside Elementary School. Before becoming an elementary school it had been a college with an observatory on the top of the building. The original door facade was saved and moved to our East entrance and many of the original windows were used in the interior of the building. Northside Early Childhood Center is a state-funded prescho

ol. It is proud to be the first Early Childhood Center in Kentucky to be awarded the Family Friendly Certification by the Governor’s Office of Early Childhood and the Prichard Committee. We understand the importance of being a Community Resource for our early childhood families that will foster positive relationships, two-way communication, and collaboration that builds trust and shared responsibility in growing self-confident, curious, and happy children that build a love of learning through purposeful play and exploration. The preschool program is available for FREE to 3 and 4-year-old children exhibiting a state-recognized disability or delay and for 4-year-old children (4 by Aug. 1st) whose household income is at or below 160% of the federal poverty level. The program operates Monday through Thursday and has both AM Session (7:15 am to 10:15 am) and PM (11:00 am-2:00 am) A preschool screening is required before enrollment. Please call NECC at (502) 321-5123 to schedule your child's screening. We look forward to providing your child with an enriching preschool experience.

We’re celebrating the life of Dolly Parton and thank her for the incredible impact she’s made on Shelby County children through her Imagination Library📚🚂

In 2022, Emily Swindler helped Northside Early Childhood Center establish a partnership with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to make the program available to every Shelby County child under age 5. Since then, more than 3,300 local children have received books through the program, and 1,650 are currently enrolled.

What began in 1995 as Dolly's tribute to her father has grown into a movement that inspires a lifelong love of reading by providing free books to young children. Her commitment to literacy has helped open doors, spark imaginations, and create opportunities for countless children in our community.

NORTHSIDE IS A 5-STAR PRESCHOOL! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We are incredibly proud to share that Northside Early Childhood Center has earned a 5-STAR RATING through Kentucky All STARS!

Kentucky All STARS is Kentucky’s expanded five-star quality rating and improvement system for early care and education programs. This accountability system provides an overall rating for every state-funded preschool site in Kentucky—and 5 STARS is the highest rating a program can earn!

While we are proud of the rating, we are even more proud of the people behind those five stars. Northside staff pours their hearts into our students every single day. They create engaging classrooms, build strong relationships with children and families, meet the individual needs of our youngest learners, and continually work to make Northside the very best place for children to learn, grow, and thrive.

This recognition truly reflects the dedication of an entire team; our teachers, instructional assistants, therapists, support staff, office staff, cafeteria staff, custodians, and everyone who plays a role in making Northside such a special place. Their hard work, collaboration, and commitment to children are what make those ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ possible.

We also want to extend a special thank you to Anderson RTC and the Kentucky Department of Education’s Preschool Unit for their continued guidance, encouragement, and support. We are grateful for the partnership and resources they provide as we continue working to give our students the very best early childhood experience possible.

What a wonderful first week of school at Northside! 🐝

Our little learners have been busy making new friends, learning classroom routines, exploring, playing, creating, and already growing in so many ways. We are so proud of how well our students have adjusted and jumped right into a brand-new school year!

A huge thank you to our amazing staff for making this first week welcoming, fun, and full of love and to our families for trusting us with your little ones each day. 💛
