Just completed this 8-inch stained glass dragonfly piece!

I really enjoyed putting this one together. The combination of the deep blue glass, bright red dragonfly wings, and green leaves gives it a lot of color and movement, and the textured glass adds some nice sparkle when the light comes through it.

After more than 30 years of working with stained glass, I still enjoy the process of taking individual pieces of glass and turning them into something completely different once they are cut, shaped, foiled, and soldered together.

Every piece teaches you something, and that’s one of the things that keeps this craft interesting after all these years.

8 inches of glass, a little solder, a lot of patience—and another piece finished!

During the week of August 17th, a 21” x 30” commissioned stained-glass panel came together in my studio with a little help from a friend.

This piece depicts Christ knocking at the door, with rich cathedral glass, carefully selected colors, and intricate detail throughout the panel. I had already selected the glass colors and cut the individual pieces when this week’s work began, allowing the focus to turn to the precision work that brings a stained-glass design to life.

Each piece was carefully checked and ground, then foiled and prepared for soldering. After assembly and soldering, the completed panel was thoroughly cleaned and finished.

A special thanks to Randy Herndon for lending a hand in the studio during the finishing process. His help was greatly appreciated and, as always, it was a pleasure sharing the craft and passing along another bit of stained-glass knowledge.

Every commissioned piece is a journey from a pattern and pieces of glass to a finished work of art. This one was especially rewarding to complete.

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

Have you ever wanted to learn the beautiful art of stained glass?

With over 30 years of experience creating stained glass and teaching students of all skill levels, I’m now offering small, hands-on classes from my home workshop.

Whether you’ve never cut a piece of glass before or you’re looking to improve your skills, I’ll guide you through the process in a relaxed, friendly setting. You’ll learn techniques, safety, tool use, and leave with a project you can be proud of.

Classes are kept small so everyone receives plenty of personal instruction.

Pricing is affordable! Just $50 for the first four hours of instruction includes all materials you will need. If your project takes more than four hours, the additional fee is $10 per hour to complete your project.

If you’ve always wanted to try stained glass, now’s the perfect time! Feel free to share this post with friends who might be interested. I look forward to creating with you!

Recently finished this stained glass Snow Drop Flowers 35”x49” church window, with assistance of my friend, Randy. It is ready to install. The overhead lights are reflecting on this shot but it was the best he could get.

The stained glass piece will be placed in memory of my sister, Sharlene Knopp, who passed away earlier this year. These were Sharlene’s favorite flowers.

Snowdrops are among the first flowering bulbs to bloom in the spring. They emerge when snow still lies on the ground. Their white-green flowers and green leaves fill the yard with color and texture. The snowdrop flower symbolizes purity, hope, and rebirth. It is often associated with the arrival of spring and is used to convey consolation and sympathy.
