We’re continuing to enjoy Reading Summer Camp. We’ve had a visit from the Cleveland Memorial Library’s Bookmobile and our first Supply Drop where everyone received a new book. We love spending the day reading, writing and then more reading!

Are you looking for a way to volunteer locally as a family this summer? Feeding Kids Cleveland County and Reading Kids Cleveland Co. are doing summer break food/book deliveries on June 27 and July 25 and your family is invited to assist. We are grateful for the many Jefferson staff and families that are involved in various ways with this organization that serves 310 families all over Cleveland County. https://www.feedingkidscc.org/

Madi's Fridge is a wonderful book that explains food insecurity in a way that children can relate to. Mrs. McMurry has shared this book with several of her classes. Ask your Bee if they remember reading it with her!

❓Can we volunteer as a family on delivery days?

Of course!

We welcome children and teens to accompany their parents or guardians on delivery days throughout the year. What better way to show your kids how to give back to their community and instill a heart for service from a young age.

If you anticipate questions from your children about food insecurity, we point you to the book, Maddi's Fridge, by Lois Brandt.

Maddi’s Fridge follows two friends, Maddi and Sofia, who play together at the park. When Sofia visits Maddi's home, it becomes clear that the fridge is empty and the cupboards are bare. Maddi asks Sofia to promise not to tell anyone. Sofia tries to keep the promise but makes a brave choice to tell her mother. This choice brings both help and care as well as much needed warm meals to Maddi's family.

This book is a favorite of our Media Coordinator, Mallory's family and has helped start the important conversation of how we can help our neighbors.

We’re having so much fun in Summer Camp at Jefferson. It has been wonderful to host students from James Love, Elizabeth and our own Jefferson Bees as we work to strengthen reading skills.
