Many parents got to experience our guest speaker Mary Derfel, firsthand at our 1st grade parent event. However, the information she provided and shared is relevant to all of us with students in our homes!

Click on the link below to enjoy learning some of the research about our readers. At the end of the presentation you will find a list of resources that are free to you and helpful for your students at home!

First grade families joined us to learn the Recipe for Readers on Friday, Oct. 9th. We hosted Mary Derfel from the NC Dept of Public Instruction who shared her experiences as both a parent and literacy leader. We were thrilled to have many parents ready to learn how to help their children move through the process of learning to read. Thank you to all who attended!!

To see Mary's Presentation click the link below. There are many free resources linked at the end of the slides. Also, thank you to all of the parents who completed our Title I survey!

🐝 1st Grade Families 🐝
We’re excited to welcome our 1st grade families to our grade-level parent event, hosted by Title I.

📅 Friday, October 9
⏰ 1:30–2:30 PM
📍 Eastside Baptist Church (directly across the street from JES)

Parents are welcome to park at the church. When you arrive, simply come around to the **back of the church**, where Jefferson staff will be there to welcome you inside!

We can’t wait to spend this time together, enjoy some fun, and share ways you can support your child’s reading at home! There will also be great door prizes available for several people to win from a name drawing! 📚🍎
We hope to see you there!💛🐝
