Did you know Sailor, our beloved cat and friend to all students, has a new kitty sibling? Meet Cranberry! Under Sailor’s careful guidance, she is quickly learning the ropes about how to work with students too. There have only been a few disagreements about which kitty gets to work with the students first. 🐈‍⬛ 😉 🐈‍⬛

Even though it’s only February, it’s not too soon to be thinking about academic support for your child this summer!

🍎 My summer tutoring program, for children entering grades K through 6+, will begin the week of June 23rd and run through the end of August. If you’re seeking support or enrichment for your child, in any elementary subject area, tutoring may offer your child the support they need.

🍎 Also new this summer, for students entering grades K-6: the Strengthening Skills program (think of a book club that includes other subjects in addition to reading). For a one time fee of $25, students can join this program for the summer. They will receive tools and a customized, interactive notebook full of skills to practice, puzzles, activities, and games to complete at home. They would also have access to the library of books here at Educational Opportunities. Your child can join this program whether or not they will do some tutoring with me.

🍎 I was looking for inspiration for some students to write a creative writing piece. Then, it hit me 💡…some of our favorite stories include a map at the beginning of the book that we can periodically refer back to when reading. A plan was launched! The students created maps of imaginary, far away places. As they created their maps, they excitedly began telling the stories that were formulating in their minds. Once their maps were complete, they couldn’t wait to start writing down all the adventures that would take place in their fictional lands. The end result? Students inspired to write and share their amazing stories! Also, one happy teacher!❤️

🍎 New this fall: Starting this September, I will be hosting and teaching a learning pod, at my home classroom, in Shelburne, VT. It will serve a small group of students entering grades K-5 and meet twice weekly. We welcome you to attend one of our open houses on Fridays, June 21st, or July 12th from 2-4 pm, to learn more about this enriching program!

Nearly 2 weeks later, and folks in this area (Burlington, VT) are still talking about how awestruck we all were when we witnessed the total solar eclipse!

Because I taught some lessons about solar eclipses the week prior, I had the perfect excuse to be a nerd and get myself an eclipse T-shirt! I wore it proudly for teaching and several days later for the special event.

Where did you view the eclipse from? Were you lucky enough to be in the path of totality?
