🏆 **A LEGEND AMONG US.**
We’re proud to congratulate **our own Ron Russell** on receiving a **Lifetime Achievement Award at the Alabama Open** — recognizing an incredible lifetime dedicated to strength, fitness, and helping others become stronger.
Ron’s fitness journey began in **1955 as a freshman at Sheffield High School**. At just 15 years old, with only a year of training, he traveled to Birmingham and won his first **Olympic-style weightlifting championship**.
That was only the beginning.
Over the decades, Ron earned an incredible **25 weightlifting titles and 25 bodybuilding titles**, including **Mr. Alabama, Mr. Texas, Mr. Virginia, and Junior Mr. America**.
While serving in the **U.S. Navy from 1961–1963**, Ron was a fitness instructor and continued competing, winning Navy competitions in both weightlifting and bodybuilding.
After his military service, Ron continued building a life around fitness — teaching physical education, training others, and eventually owning and operating **Ron’s Gym** until 1989.
And more than **70 years after he first began training**, Ron is **still doing what he loves — training and helping people get stronger right here at Rival Athletic Club.**
Long before fitness became the industry it is today, Ron was living it, teaching it, and helping pave the way. He’s considered by many to be a true **forerunner of the fitness movement** in our area.
We’re incredibly proud to have him as part of the Rival family.
**Congratulations, Ron — a Lifetime Achievement Award for a lifetime of achievement. Well deserved! 🏆💪**
Help us celebrate a true Shoals fitness legend and drop a **WAY TO GO, RON!** in the comments! 👏
