Jennifer Meyer is the 2026 “Oklahoma Ag in the Classroom” Teacher of the Year. Meyer teaches first grade in the Grove School District in Shawnee, Okla.

To get her students excited about science and aviation early, Meyer requested a tour of Tinker Air Force Base, Okla., to learn about aviation in agriculture and supply chain operations.

Katie Ward of AFLCMC’s Mobility Directorate KC-135 Logistics Branch escorted Meyer around the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex’s historic building 3001. The building is used for aircraft maintenance. The ladies also explored a KC-135. The tour helped Meyer understand the flow of aircraft maintenance.

Ward holds a doctorate in aviation education and developed a lesson plan for Meyer’s students.

“The lesson plan I wrote is called ‘Be the Plane!’ and the objective is for students to understand that airplanes and drones can help farmers, identify ways aviation helps agriculture, and practice observation and problem solving as they ‘become a plane,’” explains Ward.

The lesson plan is currently under review by Oklahoma Ag in the Classroom.
