In classes, we talk about the importance of kindness and of helping others out. In November, we run a food drive to help those less fortunate than ourselves. Now we have another opportunity to reach out to our community. The only cost is about 3-4 hours of time.
The Civic Center has sent us a signup sheet to help with food distribution, etc. in our community. It is a great way to teach your family the value in giving back. It is also a chance to support our school and the Civic Centre. Please read the information below. There are limited slots available and they are only on one Saturday a month. We hope that some of you will join in helping out.
From the Shawnee Civic Centre:
This will be our 3rd year of running Mobile Wellness Hubs at Shawanoe Elementary here in Shawnee.
These events serve food that impact hundreds of individuals in our community.
We are looking for help distributing the food we receive from Harvesters.
Basically your group(s) would come and help sort and then distribute food to the families and individuals who come to these events.
The time frame for volunteering is 8:15-11:45 on these Saturdays. The food distribution is 9am-11am, so this gives us some time prior to and after to setup and cleanup.
Please consider this as a great opportunity for your group to help out Shawnee and JoCo residents!
Community Wellness Hub: Summer Wellness Fair Event Volunteers
The City of Shawnee's Parks and Recreation Department is excited to partner with the community through the Community Wellness Hub, which includes: businesses, schools, organizations and individuals to hold mobile wellness fairs. These wellness fairs will be promoting different topics, resources, and...

The second annual ITF food drive has arrived!
In 2023, with the encouragement of President Choi, 4 countries Brazil, England, India, and the United States all joined together in the first ever ITF Annual food drive. Together they were able to provide 10,537.4 kg (23,231 lbs.) of food, another 1,400 complete meals, and $475 in cash donations. Each participating school donated their collections to their local orphanage, refugees, food banks, homeless shelters, or other local charity. With your help the ITF can do even better this year! Please help.
To participate is easy:
1. Select a local charity of your choice.
2. Starting in October, begin talking to your students about the importance of giving back to their communities.
3. Set up an area in your school and have the students bring in donations.
4. Collect the donations from November 1st through November 30th.
5. Add up the amount (weight) of foods donated. (it may be easier to keep a running total and to add up the new items every night or once or twice a week rather than trying to do it all at one time). Many students like to see their progress on a chart.
6. Deliver the donations to the charity you have chosen.
7. Before December 15, send an email indicating the School(s), INO/MO, Country, and the total amount of foods collected and donated to [email protected] and include several pictures.
