Take up and read.

Those words sent Augustine to Paul’s letter to the Romans, and his life was never the same. This past week, educators and students gathered on Bison Hill for Lamppost 2026 to explore how great books still shape the way we live.

OBU faculty led sessions on Homer, Dante, Don Quixote, Coleridge and T.S. Eliot. Students worked through the Odyssey and Boethius’ Consolation of Philosophy, and tried their hand at writing short stories. Philosopher Jennifer Frey delivered this year’s keynote.

Thank you to everyone who spent the day with us, and to OBU’s Division of Language and Literature for hosting a day devoted to reading well and teaching well.

Three OBU Honors students who have each experienced a death in their family are this year's recipients of the C.W. Riley Memorial Honors Scholarship.

Mark Riley, owner of Riley-Walker Funeral Service and Crematory, funds the scholarship in memory of his father, C.W. Riley, who died when Mark was a sophomore in college.

Congratulations to freshmen Charlotte Sipes, Gianluca Bueso and Aubrie Freeman. Read what Riley shared with them about his father and why he wants these students to know they have an ally.

Women of Vision members have chosen this year's funded campus project: an outdoor kitchen and seating area behind Kerr Residence, a new space for all OBU students to gather.

The vote came during the organization's annual dinner Oct. 1 in the Geiger Center, part of The Weekend festivities. Guests also enjoyed a live cooking demonstration from featured speaker Dina Deleasa-Gonsar, author of "At the Kitchen Sink," on her first-ever visit to Oklahoma.

Women of Vision membership is open to all OBU alumni and friends, and the full story is linked in the comments.
