🌟 Meet the Newest Member of Our Team! 🌟

We are EXCITED to introduce our new staff members joining our Shawano family! Today, we're welcoming Melissa Sheldon, our new 4K teacher at Hillcrest Elementary School!

Check out a few fun facts about Melissa below! 👇

⚫️ Melissa is originally from Crandon, WI, but moved to Shawano 20 years ago. She and her husband, Dennis, have seven children together. Three of them have graduated from the Shawano School District, and they still have four who attend school here (in three different schools!). She taught 4K during the 2021–2022 school year and then took time off to spend time with her new baby. Her favorite hobby is running, and she has run five marathons, including the Boston Marathon twice. As a family, they love to travel throughout the U.S. and Canada. Some of their favorite travel destinations are Disney World and Disneyland, as well as any national park where they can hike and explore.

🔴 Why Shawano?! Melissa originally chose Shawano because of her husband's job and then chose to raise their family here because of the many opportunities that are offered for children and adults alike. They also like the small-town feel while still being close to bigger cities.

⚫️ What is Melissa most excited about in her new role? She is especially excited to meet all of her students and be back in the classroom teaching 4K. She is also excited to start 4K at the same time as her four-year-old (and she is pretty excited, too!).

Check out a few fun facts about Tatum below! 👇

⚫️ Tatum is a Shawano School District alumna, Class of 2017! She graduated in December 2025 from the College of Menominee Nation with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary/Middle School Education. She and her husband have three daughters, ages 5, 2, and 1, who definitely keep them busy! In her free time, she enjoys reading and watching Wisconsin sports with her family.

🔴 Why Shawano?! Tatum chose Shawano because she wanted to give back to the community and district that helped shape who she is as both a person and an educator. She was blessed to have some very memorable teachers during her time in the district, and she hopes to make that same kind of impact on her students.

⚫️ What is Tatum most excited about in her new role? She is most excited about building relationships with her students and watching the joy of learning happen right in her classroom. As cliché as it sounds, seeing a student have that “aha!” moment is what makes this job so rewarding for her.

A New Era for Shawano Athletics! 🏈

What an incredible turnout! More than 200 students, families, sponsors, staff, coaches, community members and partners joined us yesterday at noon as we officially cut the ribbon on the new Shawano School District Athletic Complex! Thank you!

This beautiful new facility represents so much more than a place to compete. It’s a place where our students will work hard, build friendships, celebrate accomplishments and create memories for years to come.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special milestone, and to Hoffman Planning Design and Construction, Inc. and all those who helped bring this vision to life. Most of all, thank you to our Shawano community for your continued support of our students and schools. 🫶

The ribbon is cut; the complex is ready…and we can’t wait to see it filled with Shawano Hawks pride.

🌟 Today was a great day! We had the pleasure of hosting Terri Schultz from CESA 8 to facilitate our annual peer mentor training. Thirteen new and continuing peer mentors participated in today's training. Our mentor program brings passionate, experienced mentors alongside those who are new to teaching. Teachers in their first three years of their career are provided a mentor.

When asked "What is your why?" mentors responded with expressions of building community in our schools, sustaining and maintaining staff, serving as trusted peers, sharing positive leadership, and giving back to the profession. 🫶

We love our mentors and all they do for our community! ❤️
