In the spotlight: Joseph Leake, Class of 1981!

Graduated CVHS in 1981 and moved onto Humboldt State University (now Humboldt Cal-Poly) to study Geological Oceanography and join the Dance Department during his time there.
In 1989, he moved to San Francisco and continued with Dance but also moved into Law (those darn high school career test were right). He worked in Civil Ligation and Constitutional Law in Case Management.

In 1996, He joined the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff and has been with the Department for 30 years. He oversees the DNA/Biometrics Unit and specializes in the field and Integrated Systems. The DNA has resulted in over three thousand cold hits with several high profile matters with hits going back 28 years. Most notable was featured in Netflix Cold Case Files: Devil at the Door. It has prevailed in both federal court and CA Supreme Court regarding legality of collecting DNA; a nine-year case.

He owns https://californiachristmaslights.com, a website he took over from a friend and rebuilt with his sister. The site currently features 26 houses in Redding and reflects his ongoing connection to the performing arts.

He and his dad have headed up the Wooded Acres Big Event for the past 23 years. https://woodedacresbigevent.com The event is now 47 years old; Redding’s oldest and largest community garage sale. They had ninety-eight homes participate this year.

He is an avid collector of early American glassware for over 33 years and sits on the Board of Directors for the International Depression Glass Club which holds their annual Vintage Sale in January in Sacramento.
His Mother passed away in 2022, but dad is a healthy 95 years old. His brother John, Class of 1978 is also a CVHS graduate who lives in Redding with his kids. John just became a great great granddad: scary.

It has been a colorful journey, and he lives by his two mantras: 1) Life is full of hurdles, you just get better at jumping them. 2) By Nature’s whim, Time’s pace, Life’s terms, and the grace of a higher power do I go forth. As I control very little.
Lots of history wrapped up in the past 45 years since graduation. He will say his time at CVHS was actually very enjoyable. Made lots of friends who he still stays in touch with.

Joseph is one of more than 12,455 students who have graduated from Central Valley High School since it opened in September 1955. Learning about what our alumni have accomplished—and continue to do—should make us all proud to be Falcons!

75-Year Anniversary for CVHS!

The Alumni Association would like to have your help in preparing a big 75th Anniversary Homecoming for Central Valley High School for the Homecoming Football game at Ron Hale Memorial Stadium on September 5, 2030. How about a parade along Shasta Lake? Starting up at the Dam and going to the football stadium? Or one from Cascade Blvd. to the football stadium? We can have cars, floats for each class, etc. The oldest CVHS Alumni may be 90-years old by then. The youngest would be a member of the Class of 2030. That would make it seventy-one classes by then. We would like to know what your thoughts and ideas about the 75th year of the Central Valley High School opening celebration should include. Any donations to help us organize something special is greatly appreciated.

Ron Parker (DeCamp), Class of 1965, has donated an 8x20 storage container that will be located by the weight room. He also donated over $3500 in items to be sold, raffled off, etc. to raise funds for Alumni. He has also donated storage shelving, steel hand truck, locks to secure the container doors and other items to be used to make it easy to store items for Alumni use. It will be for storage of the yearbooks, and two popup tents, table, chairs, an alumni banner, and several other items for use during the football, track and field, soccer, and softball seasons as needed. Thank you, Ron, for your generous donations.

REASONS WE NEED TO KEEP THE CENTRAL VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION GOING:

1. Foremost and our most important goal is to provide scholarships to our graduating students.

2. We help provide funding to all clubs, sports teams, and organizations at Central Valley High School if we have the funds to do so.

3. We help provide a way for the clubs, sports teams, and organizations to hold raffles. We are a 501c3 non-profit organization that can hold raffles and games of chance. Schools cannot do this.

4. Your donations and memberships are tax deductible.

5. We do two newsletters per year to help you know what is going on with the school and its Alumni. We are thinking about not mailing out the newsletter due to the rising cost. We can e-mail it to everyone who has a computer and e-mail address.

6. We help with Class Reunions. We loan up to $500 to classes to help with their Reunion start-up. We also have a list of all the classes and the graduates. We try and keep up to date phone numbers, email addresses, and mailing lists, too.

7. We have all the yearbooks on USB as well as all the Class photos for sale. The Shasta Lake Historical Society has all the yearbooks to view if you live in the area. We have many of the newer yearbooks available for sale by the Reunion Classes to raise funds for the class.

8. We maintain an Alumni Memorial page on the school website.

The Alumni Association needs your help!!
We need you to join us and pay the dues each year of $25.00. You do not have to attend any meetings. We would like it if you could get family and friends to join too. You will receive two newsletters per year telling you about the scholarship winners and other happenings at the school, and about other alumni and what they are doing. If you are able and would like to provide a scholarship to one of the current seniors, we would be happy to help you do that each year. All help is welcome. Contact one of the Board Members if you would like to help or know someone who will (or message us on Facebookand we willreach out to you).
