Congratulations to all our Scholastics winners 2023! More Kudos to Tatum/2024 who not only got 3 works awarded at Scholastics but is also participating at our CTSO (Skills USA) regional competition at the Modern College of Design today!

Haven’t posted here in a while, but of course, a lot has been going on. Mainly, we moved out of our regular room into a temporary space, and then our regular space got renovated! New carpet, new tables, chairs and most of all new computers! Here are some pics of before, between and after. Plus some pics of the graduation of the 2021 Senior class that went through so much adversity to get there and prevail! Congratulations again!

🎨 Make-Shift Movie Poster Challenge! 🎨

Recreate your favorite Movie Poster using things laying around your house! Get creative! The more household items used, the better. Maybe the poster calls for wads of cash but all you have is green socks? Go for it! All entries will receive 2 free passes to our theatres and our favorites will have a chance to be featured in our Pre-Show on the Big Screen when we return!

Been a busy week for DA&D!
Scholastics Art Awards are installed!
We have:
Two Gold Key Winners
Four Silver Key Winners
Nine Honorable Mentions

The exhibition opens Monday January 28th at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and runs through Friday February 8th. Come out and see these students excellent work!

We also had five Adobe Certified Associates exams passed this week:
Four Juniors in Illustrator (pictured) and one Senior in Premiere (not pictured).

…and last but not least, the Scarlet Market, where students will get the chance to sell their works, is still coming along thanks to help from the Scarlet Oaks Construction Framing and Finishing Technologies.

Hope to see any prospective students at our Open House this Thursday January 31st from 5:30pm to 7:30pm!

Just want to take a moment to post a few photos and reflect on this whirlwind of a semester at Scarlet Oaks/ DA&D. We had Field Trips to the Contemporary Arts Center, The Weston Gallery and The Art Academy of Cincinnati. College visits from the AIC College of Design and the Modern College of Design. There were some certifications passed and we’re even starting up the “Scarlet Market” where students from the DA&D and ETR labs will be able to sell their creations of everything ranging from screen printed t-shirts to jewelry carved with a laser cutter and etcher.

Most of all I would like to thank my incredible students for their creativity and perseverance during all the days of bell and book work, lectures, (pop) quizzes and projects. We do our best to have fun and still get stuff done.

Looking forward to a new semester and a Happy New Year!

Welcome Mr. Regan Brown! He is the new Digital Arts & Design instructor at Scarlet Oaks this year. He has tons of design experience and is excited to take over the program.

Ms. Sillis was sad to leave but excited about her new teaching position at SCPA.

Mr. Brown will be running the DA&D page from here on out.
