What happens when students have fewer screens competing for their attention?

For the past two years, TSA students have put their phones away at the start of the school day. This fall, we're taking another step by moving away from personal laptops during the school day to a shared computer cart system, with devices available when students need them for specific academic work.

In a new Valley News article, Head of School Mary Newman and Dean of Students Blake Fabrikant talk about what we've learned from our phone policy, why we're making this next change, and the complicated questions schools are facing around AI.

We're glad to be part of this larger conversation about using technology thoughtfully and intentionally in schools.

Every answer begins with a question.

What's more important than finding the answer? As recent graduate Carter puts it, "What's more important than finding the answer is the journey to find the answer."

In this installment of TSA Voices, Dean of Students Blake Fabrikant joins recent graduates Carter, Jack, and Gabe for a conversation about curiosity, perspective, and the value of asking thoughtful questions. Together, they reflect on the kind of learning that happens when students are encouraged to explore ideas, consider different viewpoints, and discover that growth often comes through the process of thinking itself.

A Day Students Remember

Every year, TSA's entire high school community, including students, faculty, staff, and our Head of School, heads out together for an all-school adventure. This year's trip brought our community to the Deerfield River in Massachusetts for a day of whitewater rafting.

For some students, it was a familiar experience. For others, it was something entirely new. Days like these invite students to trust one another, step outside their comfort zones, and meet challenges together. They build confidence, create and strengthen friendships, and remind us what can happen when young people are challenged, supported, and trusted.

This experiences is part of what makes TSA, TSA.
